The Jasper Louis Thurman Jr. Scholarship recognizes high school seniors and full-time undergraduate freshman students who have proven success in learning, demonstrating their unique talents and courageous acts of leadership. 2. High school seniors must be eligible to graduate at the end of current academic year. 3. High school seniors must be able to prove enrollment in a four-year accredited college for fall semester of 2017 or a two-year institution that will transfer credit to a four-year college. 4. Undergraduate freshman students must be able to prove full-time enrollment (taking a minimum of 9 credits). 5. Have taken the SAT or ACT.

Compose an essay, typed and double-spaced, not to exceed 1,000 words, on the subject: How have you proven success in learning, demonstrated unique talent(s) or accomplished courageous acts of leadership. JASPER LOUIS THURMAN JR. SCHOLARSHIP FUND The Jasper Louis Thurman Jr. Family Scholarship Fund awards one $1,000 once a year. The scholarship will be awarded after proven enrollment in a college or university. To be eligible for a scholarship the student must: Be a high school senior who will graduate at the end of the current academic year or a full-time undergraduate freshman student. At the time the scholarship is awarded, be accepted into a full-time degree program either at an accredited four-year institution or a two-year institution that will transfer credits to a four-year institution; and Have taken the SAT or the ACT (see page 4). The scholarship may be used for any field of study. HOW WILL THE SELECTION BE MADE? The Scholarship Selection Committee will thoroughly examine all the application materials submitted by each scholarship applicant. In addition to the Official Application Form and the applicant s essay, the school transcript and the SAT or ACT results, the selection committee will carefully consider any recommendations or other evidence (e.g., high school activities or academic honors) of the applicant s character and abilities. Based on the record of each applicant, the selection committee will then choose a scholarship recipient and announce the winner by JUNE 1 ST. Every applicant will be notified in writing of the outcome of the selection process. The decision of the selection committee is final.
