WTS Orange County Community College Scholarships The Women's Transportation Seminar (WTS) is a national organization of transportation professionals with more than 5,000 members who are committed to excellence in the transportation industry. The organization provides a neutral forum for the exchange of information, ideas and experiences; encourages the professional development of its members, and promotes industry recognition of women in the field of transportation. Part of the WTS goal of fostering the development of women in the transportation field can be realized by encouraging bright new professionals to undertake careers in the area of transportation. In 2017, WTS Orange County awarded eleven scholarships: four to undergraduate students for $4,950, four to graduate students for $4,450, one to a community college student for $3,500, and two to high school students for $4,450. The number of scholarships and the amounts for the 2018-2019 academic year will be determined following a review of the applications received. The minimum criteria for selection are as follows: ² Open to women only ² GPA of 3.0 or higher ² Currently enrolled in a degree program in a transportation-related field, such as transportation engineering, planning, finance, or logistics ² Plans to pursue a career in a transportation-related field ² Letter of recommendation ² Personal statement The scholarships are competitive and based on the applicant's specific transportation involvement and goals, job skills, and academic record. Applications will be evaluated based on the following criteria: ² Coursework, curriculum, academic performance, and recommendation ² Intent to pursue a career in transportation in Orange County ² Commitment to transportation as demonstrated by extracurricular activities and/or work experience ² Personal statement (writing and communication skills) The WTS Orange County Community College Scholarship will be presented at an Awards Gala on December 6, 2018. The top winner may go on to compete for the National WTS Junior College Scholarship ($1,000). National awards will be presented in 2019 and attendance at the awards dinner is strongly recommended. The top winner of the WTS Orange County Scholarship will go on to compete nationally for the following Junior College Scholarship: WTS Junior College Scholarship WTS fosters the development of women in the transportation field by encouraging bright new professionals to undertake careers in the area of transportation. One way it does this is by awarding community, technical, or trade college scholarships to women pursuing transportation-related study at community and trade colleges. This scholarship is intended for students pursuing an associate or technical degree in transportation-related studies. The WTS Junior College Scholarship is in the amount of $1,000. 3
