Dean s Message Welcome to WFU Graduate School We are planning to launch World Fisheries University (hereinafter WFU) Graduate Program at Pukyoung National University (hereinafter PKNU) in the Fall of 2017. The Graduate School is sponsored by the South Korean Government, which strives to be a pioneer in the fisheries industry by enhancing the human resources of developing countries. As South Korea s first professional school dedicated exclusively to fisheries affairs, the WFU Graduate School is determined to produce outstanding experts in this field. Sustainable development, prevention and settlement of conflicts and human rights, and securing democracy are the three main aims of the UN. The international community has regarded South Korea as being at the forefront in these areas. PKNU has long maintained its reputation for advancing the fisheries industry to obtain food security and to contribute to sustainable development. PKNU has been a leader in the history of the fisheries industry for the last 70 years, producing a number of experts through its extensive research facilities and internationally recognized academics. 2017 Admission Guidelines research centers as professors and researchers, while others have entered the private industry working in such areas as engineering and manufacturing. The Graduate School of WFU Programme will last 18 months. It will deliver on Fisheries Sciences Master s degree course comprising three semesters. The course will be offered to thirty students from developing countries. The Master s degree of Fisheries Sciences is divided into three concentrations: Aquaculture Technology, Fisheries Resources Management, and Social Science. Ten students will be accepted into each concentration. Due to the small class size of the program, low student-to-faculty ratio, each student receives the maximum resources and attention of the faculty. Moreover, the student body is highly diverse with students coming from various countries. We look forward to welcoming excellent students to contribute to national and international development and the goodness of the international community. Timetable / Curriculum / How to Apply W F U Timetable - Academic duration: September 1, 2017 February 22, 2019 (18 months) - Stay duration: By the end of August, 2017 February 28, 2019 Curriculum The education provided by the Master s degree program is in accordance with the international standard. This includes introducing advanced practices and knowledge in Korean fisheries and offering capacity building to gain a comprehensive understanding of and in response to international standards and key issues, such as acquiring fisheries and aquaculture technologies, training, policy making and management skills development, prevention of IUU fishing, etc. Courses cover not only specialized theoretical education, but also include field training and experiments to provide an in-depth perspective. The universities and research institutes in the field of fisheries will cooperate to allow students to utilize their scientific equipment. 1. Faculty - The South Korean Government, Busan Metro City, and PKNU have undertaken extensive effort to prepare and collaborate in developing the WFU Graduate School Programme. The Graduate School s faculty includes PKNU professors as well as a broad international network of external scholars and professionals. Application Eligibility - Be a national of a developing country. - Be an applicantin his/her home country with a Bachelor s Degree. - Have a high level of understanding classes conducted entirely in English and be able to write academic reports and a thesis in English (Advantage points will be added for English proficiency test score with TOEFL, IELTS, or other internationally recognized English Tests). - Be in good health, both physically and mentally, to complete the programme. Pregnancy will result in disqualification. Having Tuberculosis or any kind of contagious disease will result in disqualification. 2. Guidelines for Candidate s Selection - The whole selection will be processed at PKNU. - To provide specific guidance for the thesis, candidate s concentration, and study plan will be considered as a whole. 4. 2017 Admission Guidelines Support Services 1. Travel to South Korea - The Graduate School of WFU Programme arranges and pays for round-trip to and from South Korea. The participant is to travel the most direct route between Incheon International Airport and a main international airport in the student s home country 1. - The participant is responsible for the issuance of the required Study Abroad Visa [D-2] 2. 2. Expenses for study and living T he following expenses will be covered by MOF (Ministry of Ocean and Fisheries)-PKNU during the student s stay in South Korea. a Tuition fee b Accommodation (including two meals) c Monthly Living allowance: 618,000won(about USD 550) 3. Insurance - Upon arrival, the Graduate School of World Fisheries will cover insurance for cases of illness or accidents. The insurance coverage period is from the time of arrival in South Korea to the time of departure. - WFU Graduate School encourages the students to get register for National Health Insurance, which can reduce the deductibles by up to 80%. - Chronic disease (medical expenses for previous illness: high blood pressure, diabetes, obesity, etc.), pregnancy, and mental illness will not be reimbursed.
