The Arts & Science Cuncil (ASC) Functinal Art Directry Opprtunity REQUEST FOR QUALIFICATIONS APPLICATION DEADLINE: September 30, 2016 11:59 p.m. EDT BACKGROUND The Arts & Science Cuncil (ASC) is accepting qualificatins frm prfessinal artists r teams f artists in respnse t the Arts & Science Cuncil Functinal Art Directry Opprtunity. The Arts & Science Cuncil facilitates a jint Public Art Prgram f the City f Charltte and Mecklenburg Cunty, which establishes pprtunities fr artists t create site-specific artwrk in the public sphere. The prgram is funded thrugh tw separate rdinances created individually by the City and Cunty that established a 1% fr art allcatin fr all eligible capital imprvement prjects. The Public Art prgram develps a brad cllectin f artwrk that supprts and enhances the visin f the Charltte- Mecklenburg Regin. REGISTRY OPPORTUNITY DESCRIPTION The ASC Functinal Art Directry serves as an internal resurce fr artists and craft individuals wh can design/build creative features fr City, Cunty, and Private Prjects that may r may nt be assciated with larger scale public art prjects. The registry will nt replace the RFQ s fr Public Art pprtunities. Hwever, based upn the cnstructin schedule and prject manager s special needs it may be used t aid in the selectin f qualified artists fr majr and minr public art cmmissins. The selected artists will be prfessinal artists wh are prficient in planning, creating, and implementing public art. Prtflis must demnstrate the ability t cnsider and successfully carry ut public art cmmissins, prviding reviewers with the verall aesthetics and quality f wrk. There is n limit t the number f artists wh will be accepted fr the registry. Artists selected fr the registry will always be ntified prir t being placed int cnsideratin fr specific prjects. MINIMUM ELIGIBILITY Prfessinal artists wh have experience managing, designing and cmpleting public art prject cmmissins within the past five (5) years are eligible Must reside in Nrth Carlina, Suth Carlina, Virginia r Gergia Architects interested in applying must have successfully cmpleted at least three (3) public art prjects (that are distinguished frm infrastructure design) within the last five (5) years
SUBMISSION MATERIALS Credentials: a resume r Curriculum Vitae (CV) demnstrating prfessinal histry and skills as a prfessinal artist (maximum 2 pages) Images up t ten (10) images f recent wrk cmpleted within the past five (5) years Anntatin: titles, date, media and dimensins f artwrk Artists must select the Craft Discipline(s) that best represents their wrk clay, fiber, glass, leather, metal, paper, plastic, wd, mural, stne, mixed media APPLICATION/SUBMISSION PROCESS Participants must submit all required materials thrugh SlideRm, (https://asc.sliderm.cm), an nline applicatin system. Please be sure t allw adequate time t submit yur applicatin as technical difficulties can ccur. Applicatins that are mailed, emailed, faxed, r hand-delivered will nt be cnsidered. New submissins and updates will be requested annually thrugh an RFQ prcess. Each RFQ includes a specific deadline and is published n the ASC website. Updates replace previus submissins. Artists may revise their cntact infrmatin anytime. ASC reserves the right t purge submissins which have nt been updated in three years. SELECTION PROCESS The selectin prcess is being undertaken t identify highly qualified artists interested in pursuing public art pprtunities in the Charltte-Mecklenburg Regin. All eligible applicatins will be reviewed by a panel f lcal and natinal arts prfessinals. Artists will be ntified by Nvember 30, 2016 regarding the status f their applicatin.
