196 th Bde, C/3-21, and CIDG, Sp Reese in the vicinity of AT947092 at 2150 Hours. Engaged an estimated VC squad with unknown results. 10 196 th Bde, C/3-21, Sgt Neroes at 091330 Hours. VN male entered C Company patrol base from the West. While questioning him he stated he was an ARVN and was captured by the NVA in November 67. Escaped 8 May 69. POW camp located at AT923127. VN male is at LZ Baldy. 196 th Bde, C/3-21, Sgt Neroes, in the vicinity of AT951088 at 0730 Hours. Found 8 huts and 6 bunkers; 1 hut is 10 x15 and reinforced with bamboo and bars on the windows, 1 hut was 20 x50 a possible classroom or dispensary. Numerous documents were found in the hut. CIDG with C Company said huts and bunkers was a possible POW camp and was in recent use. Huts and bunkers were destroyed and documents were sent to LZ Center. 11 196 th Bde, C/3-21, Sp Reese in the vicinity of BT098253 at 1945 Hours. Observed 4 lights coming up the hill toward their location, engaged with small arms fire and artillery. Results are unknown at this time and will sweep the area in morning. 12 196 th Bde, C/3-21, Sp Reese, in the vicinity of BT120270 at 2005 Hours. Observed lights moving from the Northwest, engaged with M-79 fire with unknown results. Information from S-5 Heip Duc: POP last night in the vicinity of AT922206. PF & RF confirmed 2 KIA, 2 WIA. Reliable agent spotted 80 VC at AT974226 in khakis with weapons. At AT894218 through starlight, spotted 2 VC and engaged with 81mm mortars. 13 196 th Bde, C/3-21, Sp Reese in the vicinity of BT240160 at 1000 Hours to 1600 Hours. Engaged 7 VC with small arms fire. Resulting in 7 VC KIA, unknown friendly casualties. 196 th Bde, C/3-21, Maj Brice, in the vicinity of BT257163 at 1630 Hours. (1) Moved 300m West and were stopped by small arms fire, called in artillery and Air Strike. (2) have started to move again towards their objective. (3) Received heavy Automatic weapon fire, RPG, and small arms fire. A/C/1-1 Cav and A/D/3-21 Infantry moved back to set Night Defensive Position. Tonight will engage with Artillery, tomorrow will try to take the objective in the early morning hours. 196 th Bde, C/3-21, Sp Reese, in the vicinity of BT254165 at 1700 Hours. Received heavy small arms fire from 400m South of their location, Artillery was fired and Air Strike called. Aircraft received small arms fire from BT251167 with negative casualties. 196 th Bde, C/3-21, Sp Reese, in the vicinity of BT255165 at 1805 Hours. Received heavy RPG and small arms fire from their primary objective and from 200 to 300m West and Northeast of their location. They pulled back to their night laager; Artillery was called, still in heavy contact, G/S on hand. Results: 2 KIA, 7 WIA (E) 11 NVA KIA (from the 31 st NVA Regiment), also 1 US WIA (M). Add 25 VC KIA at 2020 Hours, 15 196 th Bde, C/3-21, Sp Franklin, in the vicinity of BT255165 at 0220 Hours. (1) Received heavy RPG, automatic weapons fire, and hand grenade from 360 o.spooky, C/S, Artillery supported. (2) Results: 6 US KIA, 14 US WIA (E), Dust off completed at 0725 Hours. Unit was not identified. 16 196 th Bde, C/3-21, Sp Reese, in the vicinity of BT252162 at 1145 Hours. Found 2 NVA KIA by small arms fire, wearing green uniforms with no military equipment or ID. BT245166 196 th Bde, Hq/3-21, in the vicinity of BT252162 at 0940 Hours. Reported that 4/5 ARVN recovered 5 US MIAS believed to be from C/3-21 Inf (confirmed by 196 th Bde). 196 th Bde, Sgt Liporto, A,C, D/3-21, in the vicinity of BT247167, (En) BT241165 at 2020 Hours. Received 8 to 10 60mm mortar rounds outside perimeter, 2 hand grenades inside perimeter with no casualties determined. Returned fire with 4.2 mortars, small arms fire and M-79 with no assessment. 17 Location Record: BR246166 18 196 th Bde, C/3-21, Sp Reese, in the vicinity of BT243149 at BT246166 1025 Hours. Received 1 60mm mortar round. Result: No Casualties Determined adjusted Artillery with unknown results. 196 th Bde, C/3-21, Sp Reese, in the vicinity of BT246167 at 0900 Hours. Received small arms fire from unknown size enemy force and returned fire. Enemy broke contact at 1010 Hours. Results were negative. 196 th Bde, C/3-21, Sp Reese, in the vicinity of BT241144 at 1315 Hours. Observed 6 NVA wearing green uniforms and with packs but no weapons. Called in Gun ship with unknown results. 196 th Bde, C/3-21, Sgt Liporto, in the vicinity of BT248162 at 1715 Hours. Engaged 4 NVA. Result: 4 NVA KIA, found 10 Chicom hand grenades and 48 round of 60mm mortar, all destroyed. NVA unit unidentified.

While on sweep of area, found 2 NVA Killed by Artillery, they were dressed in green uniforms with packs, also found numerous trench lines and fighting positions, all destroyed. 21 Location Record: BT246167 22 Location Record: BT246167 23 196 th Bde, C/3-21, Sgt Neroes, in the vicinity of BT246162 at BT246167 0630 Hours. Detonated 105mm round booby trap rigged with trip resulting in 2 US KIA. 196 th Bde, C/3-21, Sp Reese, in the vicinity of BT235155 at 1200 Hours. Found 1 AK-47 (Sn 9474185) in a hut with 8 packs, also found an NVA uniform, personal items and medical supplies. Medical supplies and the AK-47 were evacuated to LZ Center. 24 Location Record: BT247165 25 Location Record: BT247165 26 196 th Bde, C/3-21, Sp Linton, in the vicinity of BT244150 at BT247167 1000 Hours. Found 5 NVA bodies Killed by Artillery.

Notified: C/S SFC Drosdick, G3 Sp Baucum; G2 LTC Nelson; III MAF Cpl Stanton, USARV Sp Smyode. 27 196 th Bde, C/3-21, Sp Linton, in the vicinity of BT221158 at 0930 Hours. Observed 1 VC evading West, engaged with small arms fire resulting in 1 VC KIA. VC had 7 firing devices for AT mines. Found in the same area was 1 105mm round which was broken and explosive removed. Firing devices and 105mm round were destroyed. BT247167 196 th Bde, C/3-21, Sp Reese, in the vicinity of BT221158 at 0930 Hours. Found bunker and trench complex for approximately 2 Companies. Also found 7 graves approximately 1 week old, with 21 NVA bodies, 19 in green uniforms. (9 believed to be killed by Air Strike and 12 believed killed by Small arms fire). Notified: C/S Sp Runicak; G3 Sp Baucum; G2 Sgt Overling; III MAF Sgt Ski, USARV Maj Fitzgerald. 28 196 th Bde, C/3-21, Sp Reese, in the vicinity of BT259157 at BT247167 0830 Hours. Found 15 bunkers and a tunnel complex, used within the last two days. 2 positions were.50 caliber positions with 20 shell casings from.50-caliber ammunition. Also found 7 AK-47 magazines and numerous expended AK-47 shell casings, 8 propellant charges for 82mm mortars, 10 Chicom hand grenades, 2 command detonation type mines consisting of 2.75mm rounds with wires, 1 M-2 carbine (Sn 7021353). The AK-47 magazines and M-2 carbine were evacuated to LZ Center; everything else was destroyed. 29 196 th Bde, C/3-21, Sgt Liporto, in the vicinity of BT258175 at BT247167 0830 Hours. Observed 1 VN male and 1 6-year-old female, male was beaten up severely by unknown persons. Dust off to LZ Baldy completed at 0921 Hours. 30 AMERICAL OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 196 th Bde, C/3- CHU LAI 21, air moved from the vicinity of BT247167 to Chu Lai completed at 0900 Hours. 31 Location Record: CHU LAI
