Winter 2017 Connecting Your connection to University Credit Union IN THIS ISSUE: 2017 Year in Review Board of Directors Election UCU Scholarship Program Upcoming Events

Message From the President: 50 Years, and Many More Thank you for celebrating 50 years with UCU! Throughout the past year, we have enjoyed celebrating our anniversary with our 50 th Anniversary Sweepstakes, member appreciation days and our Grand Celebration in November. There are not that many businesses or credit unions that can say that they ve achieved 50 years! We are proud of this milestone as well as the fact that we continue to serve the same group to which we were founded to serve the University of Maine System students, employees, alumni and their families. During the year, we received many testimonials that spoke to personal experiences with UCU from the past 50 years and we have enjoyed sharing those with all of you throughout the year. We ve featured those testimonials in the special edition 50 th anniversary newsletter which can be found on our website. Throughout the past year, we have been steadfast in adding technologies to the branches and campuses we serve including ATMs on the University of Maine School of Law campus in Portland and at the Alfond Arena at the University of Maine. We also completed lobby renovations at two of our branch locations at Forest Avenue in Portland and at Rangeley Road in Orono. Both branches have new and efficient lobbies and drive through lanes have new enhancements which will create a more efficient and better member experience. We continued to offer our members additional products aimed at furthering financial literacy. MoneyIsland is a game designed for youth members ages 8-14 by providing lessons through an interactive online environment, and By the Slice which is an informal session on campus that speaks to a variety of financial topics. We welcome members to sign up for MoneyIsland on our website and join us at By the Slice on campus as we begin courses in the spring semester. Additionally, we are offering our members first time homebuyer courses throughout the year, and an estate planning seminar is planned for January of 2018 in Orono. 2017 was our second year of the UCU Scholarship Program. We awarded seven college students $1,000 scholarships to begin their first year at school. We are launching our 2018 program on January 2 nd, with eight $1,000 scholarships. Details of our scholarship and to learn how to become eligible and apply are available on our website. We encourage you to share this information with anyone who may benefit from our scholarship. To cap our year, we launched the Ending Hunger on Campus in Maine campaign. UCU gives to Ending Hunger in Maine throughout the year and took this month to shine a light on our campus communities. Many folks may not be aware that food insecurity is an issue across college campuses. When we learned of the five food pantries across the University of Maine System, we decided to launch a month long effort to raise awareness, food, and funds for this cause! UCU started the campaign by donating $2,500, with the goal of raising an additional $5,000 by the end of December. I am proud to announce that on December 22nd, we achieved that goal! Donations have continued to come in through the remainder of the month and we are thrilled that our members have joined us in supporting our campus communities for this important cause. As we begin 2018, we look forward to continuing to provide offerings to help our members prepare, progress and achieve in their financial lives. Thank you for your continued membership! Happy holidays and a prosperous new year! Best Regards, Matt Check out the classic toy-inspired float made by UCU employees! It won 1 st place in the Chester Greenwood Day parade in Farmington and at Light Up the Night in Orono (as pictured).
