Introduction The nursery is committed to taking positive action to eliminate discrimination in all areas of its work. The following statements have been produced to achieve these aims: Anti-Racism Statement The Nursery welcomes the fact that ours is a multi-racial and multi-cultural society. We wish to promote understanding of and a commitment to, the principles of racial equality and justice. Because racism exists, this statement is written to help us develop and put into practice anti-racist strategies. Childhood is an important time for developing awareness and respect and adults have a responsibility to encourage positive racial attitudes. The Nursery welcomes, respects and values every child and family. It is intended that: 1. Members of the Nursery are actively encouraged to provide an anti-racist environment and are supported in doing so. This is achieved by: Adults and children role-modelling correct behaviour and language. Adults and children challenging inappropriate behaviour and language. Parents, carers and where appropriate children attending the Nursery being made aware of this policy. Frequent reviewing, and where necessary updating, this policy. Providing multi-cultural equipment on the premises for use by children and adults. These include toys, books, music and posters. Celebrating a variety of religious events throughout the year, encouraging children and adults to appreciate different religions and cultures. Providing, through outside agencies, appropriate support for families where their first language is not English. Using the internet to keep up to date with publications that may help to support the group. 2. All training at the Nursery is anti-racist in its content and conduct. 3. Employment situations are appropriate to all racial groups. REV17B3 Parkend Nursery is registered with Ofsted No. EY311483 Page 1 of 3

Anti-Sexism Statement The Nursery endeavours to promote equality of opportunity and freedom from discrimination on grounds of race, sex, class or disability in both the service provided and employment. The Nursery recognises that the facilities it provides are powerful vehicles for transmitting correct values. It can also challenge them. The Nursery firmly believes that sexism is incompatible with good educational practice. All children are positively encouraged to participate in all activities, games and toys. The Nursery is committed to providing equality of opportunity and freedom from discrimination for all people attending the Nursery. This statement complements the anti-racism and anti-sexism statements. It also pledges the Nursery to promote equality of opportunity for adults with disabilities. We will provide support socially, in employment and in training. Parents and carers who may have a disability and wish their children to attend the Nursery will be supported in an appropriate way to meet their needs. This may include home visits, using sign language or providing information such as newsletters and policies on tapes. We endeavour to meet the needs of all children who attend the Nursery. We recognise that the environment and equipment may need to be adapted to meet specific requirements. We would work closely with the children and their families to identify their needs and where needed provide additional support. Employment The Nursery aims to make full use of skills and abilities of people with disabilities, to enable them to work within the organisation. We are aware that our premises may present barriers for some people. We are constantly reviewing and working towards improving this situation where possible. Ensuring Compliance Any behaviour that is not in keeping with this policy will be challenged and a written record made of the incident. Parents, carers and staff where appropriate will be made aware of this procedure and in all cases an incident form will be completed and kept on the appropriate file. Equal Opportunities Employment Policy Statement The Nursery wishes to employ the best possible staff and therefore intends to ensure equality of opportunity so that no person should be disadvantaged or discriminated against in seeking employment or for any reason during their employment with the Nursery. Applicants will be considered on the basis of their suitability for the post, regardless of marital status, age, gender, ethnic origin, culture, religious belief or disability.
