From the Desk Maharashtra has been the epicentre of the textile industry in India. Maharashtra is among the highest cotton producing state. The textile industry of Maharashtra contributes 27% to the India s textile export. This newsletter cover the opportunities available for the industry to invest in the state. This newsletter will give a glimpse of the Amravati District. Amravati district is one of the agriculture rich region of the state. With the development of the industrial parks by MIDC, the district is now seeing new investment from the sectors such as textile, food processing and chemicals. The newsletter showcases the potential of district to be one of the most industrially developed region of the state. MIDC has always believed in having continuous interaction and feedback with the industries. In this month, we had many interactive session with the industry and foreign delegates. with Shandong province to attract Chinese investor from the province of Shandong in Maharashtra. We signed MoU with the Shandong delegation for greater corporation and increasing the bilateral ties between the two states. Textile Sector The cotton textile industry is prime industry which has contributed to the economic prosperity of Maharashtra for many years. Mumbai was the original home of India s textile mills. Soon after, Solapur, Ichalkaranji, Malegoaon and Bhiwandi have grown as textile hub. With largest land under cultivation for cotton, Maharashtra produces 65 million kg of cotton (25 per cent of the country s production) and is one of the largest cotton producer in India. The Textile industry is largest employer in Maharashtra and contributes around 27 per cent to India s total export. Maharashtra still has huge potential to be continue to be the leading state in clothing textile industry. Currently, there are more than 2,000 textile industries in the state with fixed capital of USD 2417 million State has 1,981 approved projects with investment of USD 7809.84 Million. Textile Sector Textile hubs in Maharashtra Government of Maharashtra Institutes for support to Textile Industry Thane Nandurbar Nashil Amravati Nagpur Maharashtra State Textile Corporation : It was established to administer and rehabilitate sick Textile mills in Maharashtra and to start new textile mills in the industrially backward areas of Maharashtra Website : www.mstc.co.in Pune Kolhapur Solapur Maharashtra State Handloom Corporation Ltd : It was established with the socio economic objective of providing employment to handloom weavers of the state. Website : www.mshcngp.org Maharashtra State Powerloom Corporation : It was established for the benefits of powerloom weavers and other ancillary worker in the powerloom sector. Website : www.mspc.org.in MIDC has developed 8 exclusive textile parks, two in Thane, two in Solapur, one each in Kolhapur, Nagpur, Pune and Nandurbar with facilities such as R&D laboratory / Institute, Trade center, Management and Training center, Product / Process development laboratory. Bhiwandi, Ichalkaranji, Solapur, Nagpur, Solapur and Pune are the major Multi product Textile cluster in the state. Index 5

Textile Sector Government of Maharashtra Initiatives Private Players in Maharashtra The Government of Maharashtra came out with the textile policy in 2012 with the main objective of setting up processing units in the cotton producing sectors, expansion of the textile industry and growth of employment Key Features of the Policy : The state government would provide financial assistance in a manner that effective rate of interest payable by eligible units would be 0 per cent or 2 per cent. Maharashtra would provide 10 per cent capital subsidy to new textile units in Vidarbha, Marathwada and North Maharashtra. Interest subsidy on long term loan linked to centrally sponsored Technology Upgradation Fund Scheme for New Textile project as well as modernization/ expansion/rehabilitation projects of existing textile units Vidarbha, which has a rich cotton belt, would be developed as a textile manufacturing zone. The Maharashtra government provides impetus to textile industries by a single window process, and a subsidy of 20-40 per cent on setting up a mill Government of India Initiatives Government of India has allowed 100 per cent Foreign Direct investment via the automatic route in the textile industry. District Focus: Amravati Amravati District Physical and Social Infrastructure Road 1 National Highway runs through the district. 6 State Highway and 12 major district road connect the major centre of the district and state. Railways The Mumbai Bhusawal Nagpur Kolkatta broad gauge line, Murtijapur- Achalpur, Khandwa Akola Purna and Badnera Amravati rail line run through this district.these connect Amravati to major cities of Mumbai, Jalgaon, Delhi, Nagpur and Chennai Ports Amravati District is one of the agriculture rich regions of the state Situated in the central India, it a part of Vidarbha which has its own rich cultural and historical background distinct from the rest of Maharashtra It is one of the district with highest literacy rate in the state. With development of industrial parks, the district is gaining traction in attracting textile and food processing industry and generating employment for the locals. Education Both the major port JnPt and MbPT are at a distance of 691km and 684 km respectively from Amravati district. JnPT and MbPT ports handled 461.66 lakh MT and 480.73 lakh MT cargo trafficduring 2014-15 Amravati district has 21 ITI and ITC to cater to the skill requirement of the heavy industries. It has 24 technical Institutes and 128 higher educational institutes to cater to the growing demand of industries for skilled and highly skilled resources Index 8

District Focus: Amravati Investment Opportunities Textile Industry Food Processing Chemical Industry As cotton is the major crop grown in these region, many spinning and pressing units have been set up in this division Some of the big companies set up in this division are Bombay Dyeing, Deegee Cotsyn,Siyaram Silk Mills amongst others With setting up of a new textile park at Nandgaonpeth in Amaravati, there lies huge opportunities for textile industry to grow in this region As agriculture is the main occupation of this region, many agro based industries have been set up in Amravati Some of the big companies such as Unilever, Citrop India, Rasoya proteins Amravati also has a thriving chemical and fertilizer industry catering the agricultural needs and pharmaceutical companies in this region and in the state Key Industry Players Index 9

Maharashtra Updates: Investment Plans / Initiatives / Events Yokohama Délégation Meeting November 18, 2015 Mr. Ramesh Survade, Deputy CEO, MIDC félicitating the Yokohama delegation As a part of our continuous efforts to reach out to investors, MIDC organized a conference in partnership with Yokohama Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The purpose of the meet was to create awareness among the investors from Japan about the opportunities to invest in Maharashtra and address the queries of the investors. Mr. Ramesh Survade, Deputy CEO, MIDC addressing at the conference Mr. Ramesh Survade,Deputy CEO, MIDC led the MIDC team and presented the Maharashtra success story to the investors and welcomed them to Maharashtra. He assured full support of the state government and MIDC in setting up of business in the State. Index 10

Maharashtra Updates: Investment Plans/ Initiatives / Events Maharashtra-Shandong Investment Promotion Seminar November 18, 2015 In order to explore the investment opportunities in Maharashtra, MIDC organized a seminar in Mumbai Maharashtra Shandong Investment Promotion Seminar which was held on 18th November, 2015. This seminar covered an overview on the investment opportunities in Maharashtra and Shandong. The event saw the presence of Mr. Wang Shu Gian, Vice Governor: Shandong Province, Mr. Zheng Xiyuan, Consul General Consulate General of China in Mumbai and delegates of various Shandong province companies like Inspur Technologies(India)Private Limited, SEPCO1 Electric Power Construction Corporation, Shandong Electric Power Construction, Shandong Province Metallurgical Engineering Co., Ltd. etc. Mr. Milind Shambharkar, GM Marketing made a presentation on the Investment opportunities in Maharashtra. He also highlighted the role of MIDC in the development of industry in Maharashtra and the organization can help investor in setting of business in the state. Each company gave a brief about their profile and expressed their interest to invest the Maharashtra in the near future. It was followed by MOU signing between the province Shandong Province and MIDC on increasing the bilateral corporation between the two states.
