We ve seen that Stage 1 requirements present a challenge to nonathenahealth providers and organizations across the country: This is hard It eats up resources needed elsewhere There are too many unanswered questions There s a tight time frame Functionality is not the same as usability The cost of implementation may amount to more than the bonus dollars Certification requirements don t always match process requirements Communicating with government agencies can be difficult Even the biggest and best are struggling with MU Dr. Lyle Berkowitz, testimony to Health IT Standards Committee

athenahealth helps providers satisfy the public health requirement by: Building and maintaining MU testing interfaces to all applicable immunization and syndromic surveillance registries. Enrolling providers with the appropriate immunization or syndromic surveillance registry. Submitting a test of electronic data to the immunization registry. Submitting a test of syndromic surveillance data to the public health agency. If applicable, alerting providers that the exclusion of both measures is appropriate. athenanet will alert providers to claim the appropriate exclusion if they do not perform immunizations or capture relevant syndromic surveillance data during the 90-day reporting period.

Displays which measures a particular provider has satisfied and which measures need additional attention.

Computerized Physician Order Entry The numbers here (18 & 29) show the number of satisfied and not satisfied patients for the CPOE measure. This column displays the provider s Meaningful Use measure. For the patients that were not satisfied, the QMR report will identify the missing data. This allows providers to track trends and find areas for improvement.

ISSUE: Posed a major workflow challenge for providers. Many providers didn t feel that it was helpful, appropriate and they worried about leaking PHI. 2-PART SOLUTION: First, we improved the ability of the provider to review the information.
