New Jersey 4-H Shooting Sports Rutgers Cooperative Extension of Mercer County 930 Spruce Street Trenton NJ 08648 State 4-H Shooting Sports Invitational Rules, Event Synopsis, and Registration Form Saturday, May 7 th, 2016 Check-In 9am Heritage Guild Branchburg, NJ $15.00 per participant 1. The NJ 4-H Shooting Sports Invitational will be held on Saturday, May 7 th, 2016, at Farm Acres, LLC, 91 Industrial Park Way, Branchburg NJ 08876. 2. Leaders must register club participants by Saturday, April 16 th. Late entries will not be accepted. Registration forms must be signed by the club leader, and the county 4-H Agent/Program Associate/4-H staff. 3. Please mail your Registration form, Permission Forms (one per participant), Waiver (one per participant) and one club check to: Kim Frey, 30 John Drive, Annandale, NJ 08801. Please make checks payable to: NJ4HSSAC due by April 16 th. 4. A full day of Shooting Sports fun is only $15 per participant and includes use of bows, firearms, all supplies, and lunch. 5. Participant Guidelines o Members may be registered for the following activities: o Shotgun Discipline o Team activities o o Each participant can participate in shotgun and team activities Clubs may enter an unlimited number of participants per discipline and/or team activity participants. o Participants registered for team activities will be placed on a mixed county team, formed by random draw. Each team will be comprised of 4 individuals consisting of 2 senior members, grades 9-13, and 2 junior members, grades 4-8. o Participants will be assigned on a team at the time of the event. o Each club must have one adult chaperone coach for every two participants registered. Coaches will reside with a team during the course of the day.
6. Scoring o Team activities scoring will be determined per event. All events will be scored.. 7. Matthew Genesis bows, recurve bows, and Daisy 853 air rifles will be provided for use. In the interest of fairness and safe competition, we will only utilize state or borrowed club equipment for the events. All firearms will be supplied and available at the ranges. Participants are encouraged to bring their own shooting glasses and arm guards. A small supply of shooting glasses and arm guards will be available at each range to be borrowed by participants. 8. Each participant will receive a participation certificate for attending. Winning teams will be awarded medals. 9. Event Permission Forms must be filled out by every registered participant and handed in at the time of registration. NJ 4-H is not responsible for the medical authorization and health history of the participants. 10. Heritage Guild Waiver Form must be filled out by every registered participant and handed in at the time of registration. The event waiver, must be signed by the participant s parents, relieving Heritage Guild from responsibility in the event of injury. EVENT SYNOPSIS Time at each range will be approximately 30 minutes. Team Events: Archery Games Archery 3-D Round Air Rifle Individual Events: Shot Gun Archery Games Two events will consist of games or activities which will be announced prior to the event. Rules, scoring, and objectives will be explained as each team reaches the course area. Archery 3-D Round Distances: Unmarked varied distances. Example of 3D target scoring: +10 (10 or 12 ring); center vital zone, +5 (8 ring); vital zone 0 clean miss * Individuals should note that animal targets will be used and this event will follow the ethics of hunting. Air Rifle There will be 4 relays (offhand position) for the rifle games. Events will be breakable targets, silhouettes, lollipops etc. Each event will be timed. This activity will be fun and exciting for all who participate.
Individual Shotgun Event Shotgun Divisions Junior-Grade 4-8 Senior-Grades 9-13 Participants MUST be certified by their 4-H leaders. Shotgun Participants need to supply their own hearing protection, and eye protection. Shotguns and ammo will be supplied. Non lead ammo will be used. Awards Each participant will receive an award certificate of participation. Team Events: Medals will be awarded to the top three placing teams in each of the three team events, two different Archery Games, Air Rifle, and 3-D Archery Lunch Lunch will be provided for all registered participants or attendees. Parents/Coaches and nonshooting participants can order lunch for $5.00 to be paid in advance. An educational program will be provided during lunch. Bathrooms Available on the grounds Water Keeping hydrated is extremely important. Please bring water. Attire: All participants, parents and coaches will be expected to follow the attire listed below: Keeping with 4-H rules, modest attire is expected. Long hair should be pulled back and secured. Jackets/Sweatshirts with loose strings are not permitted on ranges. Hats with loose strings or long ties are not permitted on the ranges. No loose jewelry or hanging earrings are permitted on the ranges. Footwear must be closed toed shoes/boots only (sandals, flip flops, slides, or crocks are not permitted).

Team will be mixed county teams (2 kids per county) on a team. The following adult parents/volunteers have agreed to be a team coach. Each club must have one adult chaperone for every two participants. By signing this form, the shooting sports club leader and county staff person, is verifying that all the youth entered are 1. Members in good club standing and have met all the member in good standing guidelines set by Rutgers Cooperative Extension. (Participants must have joined 4-H prior to January 1, 2016, in order to participate). 2. Knowledgeable and proficient in the safe use of the equipment and the fundamentals of the event. (Match and/or range officials may dismiss or disqualify a participant if he/she believes the participant does not demonstrate the basic proficiency and knowledge required). 3. Each participant must fill out the enclosed event permission form and must sign the code of conduct section on the back of the form, as well as the Heritage Guild Event Waiver form, All forms must be handed in no later than April 16 th. This Release applies to claims resulting from anything that might occur on Heritage Guild s premises, anything that might occur as a result of activities, or anything that might occur as a result of independent actions by Heritage Guild, and includes any claims for all personal injuries, physical pain and suffering, mental suffering, psychological injuries, emotional distress, loss of consortium, services or society, loss of wages now or in the future, and for any development, whether foreseen or unforeseen, knowable or unknowable.. 6. Indemnity. I agree to indemnify and hold harmless Heritage Guild from any claim, demand, injury, or liability, whether claimed by myself or another person arising out of my use of the facilities, products or services of Heritage Guild from any claim, demand, injury or liability, whether claimed by myself or a third party asserting such claims, arising out of my use of the facilities, products or services of Heritage Guild. This Release shall include, without limitation, any claim based, in whole or part, on an act or omission of asserted gross or ordinary negligence of Heritage Guild, breach of contract, or breach of warranty of other failure of an asserted duty or obligation. 7. Representation of Legal Capacity. I certify that I am not prohibited under any Federal, State or Local Law and/or by any Court Order or legal proceeding from the purchase, acquisition or possession of firearms, archery equipment, or any merchandise carried or provided by the Heritage Guild. I have read, understand
and agree to abide by the range rules that I have signed and as posted by Heritage Guild; further, I agree to abide by all verbal instruction and direction given by management and range officer personnel of Heritage Guild. I do consent by signing this certification to a criminal history search. 8. Acknowledgment and Assumption of Risk. I agree and acknowledge that firearms/bows are inherently dangerous and can cause bodily injury or death. I, my agents, assigns, executors or administrators, for the considerations of being allowed to enter the premises and use the facilities, firearms, bows, range, and/or other products or services of Heritage Guild, do now hereby absolutely and unequivocally assume such risks. I am fully aware that there are substantial risks to my person in the use of firearms, ammunition, bows, arrows/bolts, ranges and related products or services and that these risks include gunshot wounds, arrow/bolt wounds, caused by myself or by another, or by ricochets, inhalation of lead vapor or other poisons, and damage to my hearing from the high sound levels, or to my vision or skin from gunshot flashes and other dangers not listed herein. I do hereby accept full responsibility for my own safety. I understand that I must abide by the range rules and regulations, and wear eye and ear protection at all times that I am inside the range area. My signature and certification below confirms acceptance of this waiver of liability. 9. Binding Effect.. The Release and obligations that I have accepted under this Certification shall be binding upon my heirs, successors and assigns. 10. Supervised Minors. I agree and acknowledge that NO PERSON UNDER THE AGE OF 18 YEARS SHALL POSSESS, CARRY, FIRE OR USE A FIREARM/BOW ON HERITAGE GUILD PREMISES EXCEPT IN THE ACTUAL PRESSENCE AND UNDER THE DIRECT SUPERVISION OF HIS/HER FATHER, MOTHER, OR LEGAL GUARDIAN. In the even that a minor is accompanying me on the premises, I hereby affirm that I am the parent/legal guardian of (Name of Minor) or I hereby give my permission and consent for the above named minor(s) to be accompanied on the Range by the following responsible (Name) (Relationship) whose capability in this activity is well known to me. Further, I affirm that, on behalf of said minor(s), I absolutely and unequivocally agree on his/her behalf to the terms and conditions of the Certification, as if such person were of legal age of majority and had signed this Certification on his/her own behalf. 11. Manufacturers Operating and Safety Instructions. I agree and acknowledge that manufacturers of firearms and bows provide or will provide an instruction and/or operating manual and written warnings and that I will not operate or otherwise use a firearm or bow until I have read and understand such materials. 12. Legal Review. I have read, understood, and agree to the terms of this Release. I understand and acknowledge that this Certification affects important legal rights. I further acknowledge that I have been provided the opportunity to consult with legal counsel prior to signing this Release. I represent and warrant that I have the authority to sign this Release on my behalf and on behalf of any minor named above. I certify that the foregoing statements made by me are true.
