Topics will include: FUNDAMENTALS AND INDUSTRIAL APPLICATIONS Biomedical & Medical Applications Dielectric and other Material Properties Industrial High Power Equipment and Process Control Microwave Enhanced Chemistry Microwave Plasma Modeling, CAD and Optimization New (Non-Communication) Microwave Technologies Process Intensification with Microwaves and RF Solid State Microwave Technology Microwave Applications in the Mining Industry Material Handling and Scale Up FOOD SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Biological Applications Industrial RF & Microwave Processing of Food Microbiological Testing Microwavable Packaging Microwave Ovens: Design, Standards and Safety Product Validation Food & Agriculture Nutrition Trends in Microwave Cooking WHO ATTENDS The Symposium is an interactive and educational forum for scientists and professionals engaged in any of the topics listed above as well as: Microwave product and system manufacturers Food scientists and technologists involved with microwave processing Food safety regulators (e.g. from USDA & FDA) Consumer product managers Students in all fields associated with microwave energy SYMPOSIUM STRUCTURE IMPI 53 will offer an optional short course on the morning of Tuesday, June 18th with the official program kicking off with a Spotlight Session that afternoon. The Welcome Reception will take place on Tuesday evening. Plenary talks, special focus sessions, panel discussions, technical sessions with podium presentations and interactive poster sessions will take place Wednesday, June 19th and Thursday, June 20th. Social events and coffee breaks, as well as the poster sessions and the exhibition (open throughout the Symposium) will provide attendees with many networking opportunities over the course of the three-day event. ABSTRACT SUBMISSION The abstract must be of sufficient length to allow the Technical Program Committee (TPC) to judge the paper; lack of information in the abstract may lead to exclusion from the program. Abstracts should be a minimum of 2/3 of one page and a maximum of 3 pages. All abstract submissions must be in *.doc or *.docx format, and e-mailed to info@impi.org along with the submission form located on the last page of this document, and in Word format at http://impi. org/symposium-short-courses. E-mail notifications on acceptance/rejection and presentation mode (i.e. podium/poster) will be sent by February 15, 2019. The TPC may conditionally accept abstracts subject to specific revisions, or suggest improvements in these cases the final extended abstract must be submitted no later than March 15, 2019. Authors must note on their initial submission if they intend to submit an extended abstract to be considered for the Proceedings.

TECHNICAL REVIEW AND SELECTION CRITERIA All abstracts must be in acceptable English or they will be rejected without technical evaluation. Presentations will be accepted for the Symposium Program on the basis of the technical merit of the abstracts, including novelty, completeness of technical description, clarity of presentation, and relevance to the Symposium topic. The TPC will organize the accepted presentations into podium and poster sessions according to topics, Symposium constraints and the main interests of the attendees. THE PROCEEDINGS For inclusion in the Symposium Proceedings, the minimum length is 2/3 of one page and the maximum length of the extended abstracts is 3 pages. Inclusion in the Proceedings is subject to at least one of the authors registration and proof of the author s intent to attend the Symposium. The Proceedings will be published electronically and will be provided free to registered attendees. JMPEE PUBLICATION Authors of accepted abstracts are encouraged to submit journal versions of their papers to the Journal of Microwave Power and Electromagnetic Energy. JMPEE will designate those papers as having been presented at IMPI-53. Students may apply for a Student Travel Scholarship ($500) which may be used towards registration, travel or accommodations. The number of scholarships varies from year to year; additional details will be added to the IMPI website in the coming weeks. All student participants are eligible to participate in our Student Paper Competition. Interested students should submit extended abstracts as described above and check the box on the abstract submission form to indicate that they want their paper to be considered in the competition. Students abstracts will be evaluated for inclusion in the Symposium using the same standards and criteria as all contributed submissions. Of those accepted, the best podium talk and the best poster by an eligible student will be chosen for an award on the basis of content and presentation. For a paper to be eligible, the key author must have been a fulltime student during the time the work was performed and must present the paper at the Symposium.
