Beech Hill Road Patient Accommodation Information for patients Ophthalmology (Vitreal Retina)

This booklet will provide you with information relating to your overnight stay in the Patient Accommodation rooms at Beech Hill Road. Accommodation We would strongly advise that you bring a relative or friend to stay with you. The patient rooms are free of charge and sleep two people in single beds, your relative or friend will not be charged if they share the room with you. However if you are admitted to the ward following surgery any person sharing with you will have to vacate the patient room and move to the relative accommodation. This will incur a fee of 27.00 per night which would be invoiced to you by the Trust's Accommodation Management Team. If you and your friend or relative require separate rooms the fee of 27.00 per night would also apply. Checking in and out of your room(s) The keys for your rooms need to be collected from the Accommodation Office (shown on the map) between 10.00am and 2.00pm Monday to Friday. We would advise that your friend or relative collect the key on your behalf. If you arrive after 2.30pm the Accommodation Office will be closed, so after this time please report to the Porters' Lodge which is situated inside the main hospital entrance on B Road. The porters will contact security on your behalf to get your keys. On arrival at the Accommodation Office please give the member of staff your name(s) as our Surgery Booking Staff will have previously made the booking on your behalf. The accommodation staff will advise you on returning the key prior to you going home. page 2 of 8

Directions Please see the map on page 5 for directions. The entrance to the patient rooms is Entrance I. If you have also booked a relative's room this can be accessed from Entrance G. There is an interconnecting door so you can visit each other without going outside. Parking There is parking at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital within the multi storey car park. However places are limited and there is a daily charge of approximately 9. If your hospital stay is over 24 hours we can provide you with a parking authorisation form which allows you to park there up to a maximum of 7 days for the flat 9 approximate charge. You would have to leave the car in the car park for the duration of your stay to avoid any additional charges. Food and drink It is important that you follow the pre-operative instructions given to you by the medical and nursing staff regarding eating and drinking prior to surgery and after surgery. A prearranged snack box will be available for you on the day of surgery/treatment. This will consist of a sandwich, biscuits and a soft drink. This should be located in the kitchen fridge. Tea and coffee making facilities are available in all the bedrooms. There is a well equipped kitchen available to use. It is adjacent to the bedroom you are booked into. You are welcome to bring your own food and drink. There is a canteen on D floor of the Royal Hallamshire Hospital with a hot food service throughout the day (last food served at 7.30pm). After that time there are hot and cold meals and drinks available from vending machines in the same location. Patients and relatives are very welcome to use the canteen. page 3 of 8
