Tuesday, July 18th at 6:00 pm, please bring a friend to an evening of great information on Parkinson s Disease. Our speaker will be Dr. Christopher Cummins with Tennova Family Practice of Humboldt, Regional Director of Physical Therapy Beth Weldon, Julie and Janet Leathers with Medical Center Home Health, and our own Director of Nursing Heidi Bullock. Dr. Cummins will educate us on the signs and symptoms of Parkinson s and how to care for someone with the disease. Ms. Weldon will discuss different types of therapy, including Medical Center Home Health s Big N Loud program. There will also be more information on the disease, common behaviors and personal stories about the impact Parkinson s disease has played. Light refreshments will be served. recent events Honoring Our Veterans May 26th Residents and family members honored all of the veterans at Regency for their great service for protecting our country. Each veteran was recognized during the ceremony and had front row seats. A special flag folding program was held, along with recognizing what color each fold represented. The Honor Guard performed this ceremony. Afterwards, everyone was invited to a cookout with grilled hot dogs, potato chips, cake and ice cream. National Garden Week/The Farmers Market June 2nd The residents enjoyed the morning at The Farmer s Market for National Garden Week. Everyone had the opportunity to purchase fresh fruit and browse through all the fresh homegrown veggies, potatoes, green beans, and tomatoes. The residents love to sit on the back patio during the afternoons, so we purchased watermelons for everyone to enjoy that afternoon. 1 July 2017 Newsletter
Music of The Mind & Heart June 8th Music of The Mind & Heart was an event to raise money for The Alzheimer s Foundation. Families, friends and residents joined in together for an afternoon of great food, and live music. The Regency Dietary Staff had the grill smoking while the Old Country Store and Wood Stock Bake Shop donated desserts. We also had face painting and live music. Residents Lunch Outing/The Dixie Cafe June 9th Today was such a great day for an lunch outing. The residents love riding on the bus for outings. The Dixie Cafe has the family atmosphere that offers home cooked meals. You can dine in or take out. Everyone has the opportunity to choose from a variety of meats and fresh cooked vegetables. The residents always enjoy dining in, so can they browse through the gift shop looking at all the different items. Regency Retirement Village of Jackson 2
upcoming events July 4th at 11:30 am Put it on the Grill Day It is grilling month, and what better day to throw something on the grill to celebrate grilling month and Independence Day? The Dietary Department will fire up the grill and cook hot dogs with all the trimmings for everyone to enjoy. Later, everyone will enjoy watermelon on the patio for an afternoon activity. July 11th at 2:00 pm Hawaiian Luau Zumba The residents and Zumba Katrina will gather for an afternoon of fun dancing to the Beach Boys. The residents will have the opportunity to wear grass skirts, leis, and dress in tropical colors. We will have different routines and music for them to dance to. Afterwards, everyone can enjoy tropical refreshments. July 14th at 2:00 pm Fashion Event Featuring Park Lane Families, friends and residents are invited to attend a Jewelry Show represented by Joyce Todd with Park Lane Jewelry. They will set up in the lobby. The residents will have the opportunity to model all the different designs, the latest and greatest trends for 2017. July 19th at 10:00 am Regency Buck Auction The residents always enjoy a monthly auction to bid for goodies. Each resident is given Regency Bucks. They have the opportunity to bid on different items from snacks to note books, pens, kleenex, and whatnots. The residents enjoy bidding for their favorite item. July 25 Hot Fudge Sundae Day Today the residents will celebrate Hot Fudge Sundae Day. What could be better than gooey fudge and ice cream? The tasty dessert has been around since hot fudge was introduced in 1906. Today, the residents will enjoy a Hot Fudge Sundae Social, and while enjoying the treat, the residents will be challenged to see how may five-letter words they can make of out the words Hot Fudge Sundae. community spotlight Evelyn Barnes Evelyn Barnes has lived at Regency for over a year. Leading an active life, she loves to participate in the Walk Club twice a week. She was born and raised in Madison County. She attended Medina High School, and afterwards, she attended a business college. Ms. Barnes later owned and operated Medina Insurance Company for 32 years. She finally retired after a long, busy career in the insurance business. She was married to the late Billy Barnes, and together they had 2 children and two grandchildren. Ms. Barnes loves to cross stitch and paint. She participates in the majority of the activities at Regency. We are proud to have her as part of our community. July FuN Facts Contrary to popular belief, only two Founding Fathers signed the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776. The majority of signers penned their signatures on August 2, 1776. The holiday does not celebrate the signing of the Declaration; it celebrates the adoption of the Declaration of Independence by the Second Continental Congress. Sylvia acts as a preceptor for the new caregivers and ensures they know how and what to do to take care of the residents. She treats her co-workers and residents with respect and care. Sylvia goes well beyond her job description, but most of all, she brightens the day for everyone. We are very blessed to have Sylvia as part of our team.
