ACS Division of Agricultural and Food Chemistry Awards 2015 2016 The Agricultural and Food Chemistry Division (AGFD) of the American Chemical Society (ACS) is proud to offer the following awards for 2014 2015: The Undergraduate Student Research Symposium Those students chosen to participate as Finalists in the symposium will receive travel expenses up to $1,000 to attend and present their research at the 2016 ACS Spring Meeting in San Diego, CA. Two prizes will be awarded. First prize will receive a cash award of $750. Second place will receive a cash award of $250. Deadline for application is October 31, 2015. The Withycombe-Charalambous Graduate Student Symposium Finalists in the symposium will receive travel expenses up to $1000 to attend and present their research at the 2016 ACS Spring Meeting in San Diego, CA. One prize will be awarded comprising of a cash award of $1000. Deadline for application is October 31, 2015. The Teranishi Graduate Fellowship The winner will receive a onetime fellowship award of $2,500 and a plaque to be given at the 2016 ACS Fall Meeting in Philadelphia, PA. Deadline for application is February 1, 2016. The Young Scientist Award Symposium Finalist will receive travel expenses up to $1,000 to attend and present their research at the 2016 ACS Fall Meeting in Philadelphia, PA. The winner receives a cash award of $1,000. Deadline for application is March 2, 2016. In addition to the above awards, the Division offers another award for scientific contributions in the area of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, the Award for Advancement of Application of Agricultural and Food Chemistry (AGFD Award). This prestigious Award, which consists of $3,000, a plaque, and meeting travel expenses, is co-sponsored by the AGFD and International Flavors and Fragrances. Undergraduate Student Research Symposium This symposium is designed by AGFD to showcase the research talents of undergraduate students, provide a professional forum for presentations of their research and promote their continuance of education in food & agricultural chemistry. Participation in the symposium is open to all undergraduate students at all certified universities actively participating in research projects/programs in food or agricultural chemistry. Those students chosen to participate as Finalists in the symposium will receive reavel expenses up to $1000 to attend and present their research at the Spring meeting of ACS. The AGFD Advisory Board will choose those students who will participate in the symposium. Two Undergraduate Research Award winners will be determined at the time of the Symposium. First place will receive a cash award of $750. Second place will receive a cash award of $250. Applications are being accepted from qualified undergraduate students. To apply, please submit the following items: 1) Application form 2) Resume/CV 3) Complete college transcripts 4) One page summary of the research done to date. 5) Letters of recommendation from two professors (one from advisor). 6) A 150 word abstract of the proposed oral presentation. WITHYCOMBE-CHARALAMBOUS GRADUATE STUDENT SYMPOSIUM Sponsor: Division of Agricultural and Food Chemistry (AGFD) of the American Chemical Society (ACS) Purpose: This symposium is designed to showcase the research talents of graduate degree candidates to prospective employers. Eligibility: Participation in the symposium is open to all graduate students who are expected to graduate in 2015 from certified universities doing advanced research in the areas of food and agricultural chemistry. Selection Process: The AGFD Advisory Board will choose those graduate students who will participate as Finalists in the symposium. Venue/Date: The symposium will be held in conjunction with the 251st ACS National Meeting & Exposition Travel Award: Finalists in the symposium will receive travel expenses up to $1000 to attend and present their research at the ACS National Meeting. Award Winner: The Graduate Research Award winner will be determined in the Symposium and given a Cash Award of $1000. Requirements: The application package must include the following items: 1.) Cover letter with resume 2.) Complete college/graduate school transcripts 3.) Two-page summary of the degree research 4.)
