An idea so big we can t do it alone Hazel McCallion Campus Sheridan

Hazel McCallion Campus 1 For over 40 years, Sheridan has been pushing the boundaries of higher education, continually evolving to help people, businesses and communities succeed. Rather than bask in our achievement, we re more inspired than ever to innovate. We ve got an idea that s bold. It s an idea so big that we can t do it alone.

Hazel McCallion Campus 2 Sheridan s presence in Mississauga has contributed to our city s urban transformation. The thousands of students who come here each day breathe new life into our city. The Hazel McCallion Campus expansion will invite even more people to gather and share ideas. It s key to our city s future growth and prosperity. Hazel McCallion, Mayor, City of Mississauga

Hazel McCallion Campus 3 Help us reinvent Ontario s future Building on the generous donation of land from the City of Mississauga, Sheridan is launching a $9 million campaign to construct a second, state-ofthe-art building at our Hazel McCallion Campus (HMC). This sophisticated space will facilitate multidisciplinary learning and help us equip students with the 21st century life skill of creative problem solving. An expanded HMC will enable more of the West GTA workforce to pursue credentials closer to home and help to provide long-term stability to this rapidly growing region.

Hazel McCallion Campus 4 Ontario s future hinges on an educated workforce that helps us compete in a global, knowledge-based economy. HMC will hone this talent by engaging students in interdisciplinary learning and creative problem solving. We extend our gratitude to the Government of Ontario for its strategic investment in this innovative teaching and learning facility. Dr. Jeff Zabudsky, President & CEO, Sheridan College

Hazel McCallion Campus 5

Hazel McCallion Campus 6 What kind of future do you envision? Canada needs a new breed of thinkers who are not only capable of embracing a rapidly changing economy, but inventing it. Creativity is the idea engine that leads to innovation, finds solutions where others only see problems, helps attract talent and investment, and spurs economic and social development. Education has been proven to be the leading contributor to Ontario s wellbeing. Your generosity will ensure that Sheridan can create the right kind of learning space that helps to hone students skills, competencies and talents so they graduate ready to thrive in a constantly changing marketplace. Together, we ll empower thousands of learners each year, from Ontario, Canada and around the world to enrich their own lives, the businesses where they work, and the communities that they are proud to call home. Opportunities for improvement Ontario ranks 14 out of 16 for productivity among its peer regions in North America. 1 in 4 CEOs report delaying a market opportunity or strategic initiative due to a lack of talent. Canada consistently struggles with the ability to translate innovations within university research into commercial success stories.

Hazel McCallion Campus 7

Hazel McCallion Campus 8 Growing up, I never considered myself to be good at coming up with ideas. That s what drew me to creative problem solving. It s a life skill that helps people experiment and drive change even when knowledge runs out. I don t know of any institution other than Sheridan that has taken this stance to embed creativity so deeply and broadly. Dr. Gerard Puccio, Department Chair, International Center for Studies in Creativity, SUNY Buffalo State & Distinguished Visiting Scholar in Creativity, Sheridan College

Hazel McCallion Campus 10 Sheridan Hazel McCallion Campus

Hazel McCallion Campus 11 A hub for creative and entrepreneurial thinking Industrial centres around the world advance innovation through the intelligent combination of expertise and resources. That s the strategy we re adopting for the creation of our second, state-of-the-art building at our Hazel McCallion Campus in Mississauga the current home of Sheridan s Faculty of Business. This outstanding facility will respond to the burgeoning demand for our programs in both Canada and abroad, and respond to Ontario s previously announced target of creating 60,000 additional spaces in colleges and universities. It will be home to program clusters in architecture and interior design, creativity and communications, business, advertising and merchandising. Other highlights include a new Creativity Commons, dedicated space for an Institute for Creativity and a main-floor art gallery that will showcase student art and welcome the public, further integrating education with civic life.

Hazel McCallion Campus 12 The right space to collaborate Fall 2014 September 2016 1 Breaking ground Doors open New public art gallery 1 Bicycle garage and two new bike room showers 94 kwh/m 2 per year The energy consumption of our new building roughly half of what is used by buildings in Canada making it one of the top performing academic buildings in North America and Sheridan s new standard for building construction 28 29 1 New studios, labs and production spaces for architecture, interior decorating and visual merchandising New classrooms Creativity Commons

Hazel McCallion Campus 13 The new space equally responds to the way that students tell us they like to learn. Flexible classrooms and open spaces make room for ideas to collide. With professors as facilitators, we ll help students to sort and interpret the world of information at their fingertips. Bringing together students from across the city, province, country and world, we ll provide opportunities to create knowledge and expand networks to help students shape their own learning experience. With your support, we ll build a critically-needed resource in the centre of the West GTA that reimagines the possibilities for undergraduate education in Ontario. 9,450 5,600 The approximate number of students who relocated to the Halton and Peel regions in 2012/13 to attend Sheridan Number of students who will ultimately call the campus home $56.1M 1,239,165 The amount that Sheridan students who relocated to Halton and Peel added to the local economy to pay for transportation, accommodation and other living expenses The number of images, ebooks, e-journals, videos and research databases students at HMC can access through the library 540 The number of students who have participated in research activities at HMC since it opened in 2011

Hazel McCallion Campus 14 Success depends on striking a balance between desire and mechanisms. While I had the vision and the ideas, Sheridan helped me to kick-start my network and build the knowledge I d need to deal with the dynamic and competitive nature of business. I m proud to give back to the place that helped me to launch my career. Randy Pilon, President & CEO, Virox Technologies Inc. (Business 1982)

Hazel McCallion Campus 15

Hazel McCallion Campus 16 What s missing is you Sheridan s $9 million Get Creative campaign will leverage a $97 million investment that we are honoured to have received from the governments of Canada, Ontario and Mississauga. With your help, we ll ensure that thousands of students each year graduate ready to adapt to the changing world around them. $9M Additional investment to be secured from Sheridan supporters $6M Land donation from the City of Mississauga $15.6M Infrastructure investment from the Government of Canada $75.6M Infrastructure investment from the Province of Ontario

Hazel McCallion Campus 17 Being able to talk with your professors knowing that you re not just a number and that they actually care about you and want to see you succeed that is what makes Sheridan great. Bryan McClatchie, Student, Business Administration Marketing & President, Enactus Sheridan

Hazel McCallion Campus 18 For Sheridan, advancing education is nothing new #1 2nd Ranked as the #1 college in Ontario and #6 in Canada for applied research 124 Only the second arts school in Canada to gain substantial equivalency/membership in the prestigious US-based National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD) 70 Home to 124 programs, including 20 Bachelor s degrees The number of countries from which Sheridan s international students hail

Hazel McCallion Campus 19 133,000 Number of alumni taking our style of thinking to the worlds of business, digital media and communications, arts and design, applied computing and telecommunications, engineering and manufacturing, and community services #1 1st Rated by employers as the best college in Ontario for critical thinking, problem solving, productivity, creativity and innovation The first college in Canada to join the likes of Harvard, MIT and Stanford in a worldwide movement called CDIO (conceive, design, implement, operate) to reinvent engineering education

Hazel McCallion Campus 20 Help us build a better future Creativity with purpose is what makes Sheridan a pathfinder a fearless educator that constantly challenges the status quo to offer an undergraduate education that s right for the times and that s truly transformative. Your generous gift, in support of HMC, will empower thousands of people each year to access the kind of education that can enrich their lives and the world around them. Together, we ll create a lasting legacy for learning, discovery, innovation and creativity and grow Ontario s prominence and prosperity in Canada and internationally for generations to come.
