The JV Knights Tennis Team competed well in our first tournament of the fall season in Hurst last week. Daniel Uziel got 3rd in B boys singles and Nishanth Karlapudi won consolation in A boys singles. Emi Dahl, Keniesha Patterson and Gabe Alley won consolation in A girls and boys doubles. P A G E 5 Counseling PSAT TESTING Wednesday, October 10 th 2018 PSAT is coming soon to IHS! Please see below for important testing details! 10 th & 11 th Grade: All 10 th and 11 th grade students will take the PSAT/NMSQT test. This is a practice test for 10 th grade, and a potential scholarship opportunity for 11 th graders. The tests will be given during 1A and 2A periods. Afternoon classes (3A and 4A) including CTE Center classes will follow the regular schedule. Students will not attend 1A or 2A CTE courses. Students who have a 3 rd period class at CTE are encouraged to bring a sack lunch as the buses will depart at 1 pm and they may not have time for lunch. Room assignments for all 10 th and 11 th graders will be posted in the cafeteria the week prior to testing. TESTING WILL BEGIN PROMPTLY AT 9:00 AM. Students should report to the testing room no later than 8:50 AM. Students arriving after 9:00 AM will not be allowed to test. 10 th graders will need to bring a calculator if they choose to use one; Calculators will be provided to all 11 th graders. Special Education students enrolled in 10 th and 11 th grade, that have been exempt from taking the PSAT/NMSQT, through ARD Committee decision, will have late arrival. Students should arrive at IHS no earlier than 12:20 pm. Report to the gym to wait to be released to 3 rd period. Special Education students enrolled in a centralized program, who are not participating in the PSAT/NMSQT, will have optional late arrival 12:30 pm. Parents should submit the google doc that was provided by their case managers to let staff know their choice. 9 th & 12 th Grade: All 9 th and 12 th grade students will have late arrival. Students should arrive at IHS no earlier than 12:20 pm. Report to the gym (parents can drop off in the back by the gym doors. There will be no carpool open in the front of the school). Regular bell schedule will resume at the beginning of 3 rd period (12:40 pm). CTE Center busses will depart from campuses at 1:00 pm. CELL PHONES/ELECTRONIC DEVICES are not allowed in the testing room. Do not bring cell phones to your testing room! Any cell phone or electronic device (capable of capturing photos or accessing the internet) brought into the testing room will be picked up prior to testing and students will receive a cell phone violation. All collected electronic devices will need to be picked up from the front office after school by a parent.
P A G E 6 Counseling Any student found with an electronic device in the testing room after testing has begun will face appropriate consequences including the possibility of dismissal from the test and cancellation of scores. Juniors, this especially pertains to you because your PSAT score is linked to scholarship opportunities! Please leave all personal items in your locker or at home. FOOD AND DRINKS brought to the testing room must be placed by the door to access during the breaks. Mechanical pencils and highlighters are NOT allowed. Students are encouraged to bring two Number 2 pencils for the testing session Calculators: Although the use of a calculator is not required for this test, it may be helpful for students. Calculators will be provided to all 11 th grade students. 10 th grade students may bring a scientific or graphing calculator from home. The PSAT score reports are due to arrive in January. The reports and test booklets will be distributed at school. Reminders: Student guides: 10 th & 11 th grade students received an Official Student Guide to the PSAT/NMSQT. The booklet has information on what the test measures and includes a student practice test for preparation. There are no extra copies of this guide available. There are no make-up tests available for PSAT. Breakfast- We encourage students to eat a healthy breakfast in the morning before PSAT testing. Bring a pencil and your calculator if you would like to use one. IHS will not be providing calculators.
