National Ranching Heritage Center & Lubbock County Junior Livestock Show Western Art Contest OFFICIAL RULES The National Ranching Heritage Center and the Lubbock County Junior Livestock Show, with home offices located in Lubbock, Texas, are nonprofit corporations organized and existing under the laws of Texas. Definitions: The following terms shall have the following meanings within these Official Rules. Any other specific terms will be defined within the text of Entry Form, Release of Liability & Indemnity Agreement. NRHC the National Ranching Heritage Center LCJLS Lubbock County Junior Livestock Show Art Contest the NRHC and LCJLS Western Art Contest Art Entry work of art submitted to the Art Contest. Exhibitor- the artist of the Art Entry submitted in the Art Contest. Important Dates and Deadlines Art Entry Deadline: By 5pm, Friday, December 4, 2015 No late entries accepted. Any art entry received after Friday, December 4, 2015 will be considered ineligible for submission. Art Entry Drop- off: Art Entries with Entry form, Release and Agreement should be brought to the National Ranching Heritage Center during regular business office hours: Monday through Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm. The NRHC office is located on Fourth Street, next to the Museum of Texas Tech, at 3121 4 th Street, Lubbock, TX 79409. Mailed Entries Should be sent to: National Ranching Heritage Center, c/o Education Department, Box 43200, Lubbock, Texas, 79409-3200. Mailed art entries must be received by Friday, December 4, 2015. No exceptions. All Exhibitors must ensure the Art Entry is received by the NRHC by December 4, 2015. Exhibition of Art (open to public): Saturday, January 9, 2016 through Sunday, January 17, 2016 at the NRHC main gallery. Awards Ceremony: Saturday, January 9, 2016 at 1:00pm First through third place in each category and Champion and Reserve Champions recognized in the Anderson Room at the National Ranching Heritage Center. All art entries on exhibit in main galleries at the NRHC. Special Rules, Guidelines and Requirements of Art Entries READ CAREFULLY. AN ART ENTRY WILL BE DISQUALIFIED IF IT DOES NOT ADHERE TO THE RULES AND GUIDELINES. Continued >>

National Ranching Heritage Center & Lubbock County Junior Livestock Show Authorship, Plagiarism, Infringement: The student and parent/legal guardian must sign the Entry Form, Release of Liability & Indemnity Agreement wherein the Exhibitor and his or her parent/legal guardian make certain representations and warranties with respect to the Art Entry. All Art Entries must be executed solely by the Exhibitor submitting the Art Entry and be the original work of art of the Exhibitor. Parents/legal guardians, family members, friends and teachers must not assist in the execution of the Art Entry. By entering the NRHC and LCJLS Western Art Contest, each student undertakes to present original art work that has been created by herself or himself in its entirety. By way of example and not by limitation, the Art Entry (i) shall not be a reproduction of a third party s work of art, (ii) shall not involve the usage of tracings or duplicating devices, (iii) shall not have been previously published, (iv) shall not have won a previous award, (v) shall not infringe upon the copyrights, trademarks, rights of privacy, publicity or other intellectual property rights or any personal or property rights of any third party, or (vi) shall not contain any trademarks, logos, or trade dress owned by third parties. If such student s Art Entry incorporates published materials as a reference, the student should provide a copy of all such reference material along with his or her Art Entry. Any legal issue related to copyright infringement or the violation or infringement of any other intellectual, personal or property right is the sole and exclusive responsibility of the Exhibitor and his or her parent/legal guardian. NRHC and LCJLS will not be responsible for or liable for or involved in any such legal issues. If a placing Art Entry is found to violate these Official Rules or otherwise be in breach of the representations and warranties in the Entry Form, Release of Liability & Indemnity Agreement, any awards that were awarded to the exhibitor are forfeited, and if already received, shall be returned to NRHC and LCJLS. Likewise, any awards that have not yet been received will not be awarded. Judging: Individual Two- Dimensional will be the only division judged in the Art Contest. Art Entries will be judged by a panel of art professionals. All Art Entries will be judged on artistic merit, creativity and their expression of the theme and subject matter. Under no conditions may parents/legal guardians or students contact the judges to dispute the status of an Art Entry. Judge s decisions are final. Eligibility: Participation in the Art Contest is limited to Lubbock County Students currently enrolled in a Public, Private, Charter or Home school in grades 6 through 12. Exhibitors must be between the ages of eleven (11) and nineteen (19) as of January 1, 2016. Ineligibility: Students currently enrolled in a college or university, students that do not reside in Lubbock County and students not currently enrolled in a Public, Private, Charter or Home school program are not eligible to enter the art contest. Art Entry: The Exhibitor must have created the Art Entry during the calendar year 2015 for entry in the 2016 Art Contest. Each Exhibitor may enter one (1) Art Entry in each category of their division. No more than one student may work on a single Art Entry. Each Art Entry must be titled. Continued >>

National Ranching Heritage Center & Lubbock County Junior Livestock Show On the back of each Art Entry must be the Exhibitor s name, school, title of Art Entry Piece and Exhibitor s personal contact information. One (1) Entry Form, Release of Liability & Indemnity Agreement for each Art Entry must be submitted. Do not laminate, use art sleeves, shrink- wrap or frame art entries. Theme/Subject: The theme and subject of the Art Entries shall be Western Art that represents and/or expresses the spirit and semblance of the Lubbock County Junior Livestock Show and/or ranching. Labels: A LABEL SHOULD NOT BE PLACED ON THE FRONT SIDE OF THE ART ENTRY. NRHC will place a label on each Art Entry with the student s name, age, grade and school to give more unified look to the Art Contest displays. The Art Entry MUST have contact information ON THE BACK of the Art Entry. Please use a permanent pen or marker and indicate the student s name, phone number and teacher s name on the back AND on the back of the matting so that pieces of the Art Entry can be identified in the event they become separated during transportation or display. Size, Matting and Mounting: Matting/mounting serves as a form of protection for the Art Entry during delivery and display, and is REQUIRED on all Art Entries except canvas Art Entries. A) Size requirements for all Art Entries: Art Entries must be at least 8.5 x 11 and NO LARGER THAN 18 X 24 inches in size. Art Entries not meeting size requirements will be disqualified and may not be displayed. B) Matting/ Mounting Requirements for all Art Entries: All Art Entries with the exception of canvas and canvas board are required to have a border 1 ½ to 2 in size (or matting if desired) and be mounted on illustration board or cardboard cut the exact dimension of the final Arty Entry. (Final size with 2 border no larger than 22x28 total inches. (Canvas and canvas board are not required to be mounted or matted). MEDIA GUIDELINES Art Entries may be of the following media. Dry, unstable media such as pastels, charcoal or pencil that may rub off and be damaged or damage other works must be spray fixed. No conceptual drawings or photographs of the Art Entry will be accepted as an Art Entry. a) Colored Drawing: Colored pencil, pastels, crayons, conte, chalks. b) Mixed Media: Watercolor with pencil, pen and ink with watercolor, or the use of any two (2) or more mediums. c) Monochromatic Drawing: The use of one (1) color and variations of the same color on flatwork (i.e. pen and ink). Can be a lead pencil drawing, charcoal drawing or a drawing made with one (1) color pencil. d) Painting: All mediums applied by brush, such as: oil, watercolor, ink washes, acrylics, tempera, designer colors, gouache, inks and dyes. Paint must be completely dry before submitting as an Art Entry. Continued >>

DISPLAY/PROMOTIONAL MATERIALS National Ranching Heritage Center & Lubbock County Junior Livestock Show All art Entries will be judged prior to display. All placing Art Entries will be displayed at the NRHC. Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion will be on display at the LCJLS Auction. The exhibit will run from Saturday, January 9, 2016 through Sunday, January 17, 2016 at the NRHC main gallery. All Art Entries submitted to this Art Contest, NRHC and LCJLS may reproduce, publish, display and otherwise use Art Entries in any media and for any purpose, including, but not limited to, NRHC and LCJLS use in promotion of the Art Contest and/or the Lubbock County Junior Livestock Show. AWARDS NOTIFICATION, PRESENTATION & RECOGNITION Notification: Exhibitors of placing Art Entries will be notified by January 4, 2016 by email and/or telephone using the contact information indicated on the Entry Form, Release of Liability & Indemnity Agreement. Actual Art Entry placing will not be announced until the awards ceremony held on January 9, 2016. Awards Presentation Ceremony: All Exhibitors of placing Art Entries will receive an invitation to attend the awards ceremony held January 9, 2016 at the NRHC Anderson Room. Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion will also receive special recognition at the Lubbock County Junior Livestock Show Sale dinner on January 23, 2016. Grand Champion: A Grand Champion entry will be awarded in both the Middle School and High School divisions. There will also be one (1) overall Grand Champion for an individual Art Entry. Reserve Grand Champion: A Reserve Grand Champion will be awarded in both the Middle School and High School divisions. There will be one (1) overall Reserve Grand Champion for an individual Art Entry submission. Other Awards 2- D Individual Art awards will be awarded to those who have placed first through third in the following categories: Mixed Media, Drawing, and Painting for the respective ages. EXHIBITOR AND HIS OR HER PARENT/LEGAL GUARDIAN EXPRESSLY ACKNOWLEDGE AND AGREE THAT ANY ART ENTRY NOT CLAIMED BY January 22, 2016 WILL BECOME THE PROPERTY OF NRHC AND MAY BE DISCARDED. ART ENTRIES MUST BE CLAIMED IN PERSON or by someone authorized by one (1) of the following: parent/guardian, teacher, or student. Please note that many schools and/or school districts pick up Art Entries for all the students in that school or school district. Please check with the art teacher ad/or the school prior to pick up to ensure that your Art Entry has not already been claimed. NO ART ENTRY WILL BE RETURNED BY MAIL. PHOTO/VIDEO RELEASE FORM I give the National Ranching Heritage Center at Texas Tech University, the Ranching Heritage Association and the Lubbock County Junior Livestock Show Association my unrestricted permission to use photos and/or video of my child(ren) and their art entry in the Ranch Record, on the Web site of the NRHC and LCJLSA and in any form of media (print, digital, electronic, broadcast or otherwise) promoting the Ranching Heritage Association, NRHC or LCJLSA, such as publicity, event promotion, membership recruitment, marketing, advertising, or fund raising. I waive any right that I may have to inspect and approve the photo and/or video that may be used now and/or in the future. I waive any right to compensation arising from or related to the use of the image. I release and agree to hold harmless Texas Tech, it Board of Regents, officers, employees, NRHC, RHA and LCJLSA and staff and/or others by whom Texas Tech is acting, of and from any liability related to the use of the photographs. I certify that I am at least 18 years of age (or if under 18 years of age, that I am joined herein by my parent or legal guardian) and that this release is signed voluntarily. TEACHER/STUDENT/PARENT AGREEMENT We, the teacher, student and parent/guardian, certify that the student has read, understands and has abided by the Art Contest Official Rules. We further certify that the Student Artwork is the student s own work and idea. The Student Artwork has not been reproduced from any copyright protected artwork, photograph or other material or previously published photograph, artwork or other material. Further, we certify that the student has not used mechanical devices such as opaque projectors or computer enhanced pictures, as stated in the Rules. We understand that NRHC and LCJLSA and it s affiliates named in the official rules are not responsible for loss, theft or damage to the Student Artwork, and that damaged Student Artwork will not be repaired. We hereby grant the NRHC and LCJLSA permission to take the Student Artwork for display and grant permission for it to be photographed and reproduced. By participating in the Art Contest, we understand that the Student Artwork may be included in whole or in part or composite; distorted in character or form; included in conjunction with the student s own or a fictitious name or reproductions thereof; included in color or otherwise. We give permission for these uses without the receipt of any financial consideration or compensations with regards to the reproduction or display of the Student Artwork. We agree to waive any right that we may have to inspect and/or approve the finished product that by be used or the use to which it may be applied. We understand that voluntary consent to waiving of any rights and/or privileges which we might have in this matter is prerequisite to the student entering and competing in any contest held in connection with and sanctioned by the NRHC or LCJLSA and that a properly executed Entry Application is a part of the student s valid application to be a contestant in any such event.
