INTRODUCTION ABOUT THE COLLEGE The MIOT Academy of Allied Health Science, Chennai, India, is a centre, which provides excellence in Ortho, Cardiac and Renal care is promoted by Madras Institute of Orthopaedics and Traumatology (MIOT) Hospitals. It is headed by the renowned Orthopaedician, Padmashri Prof. Dr. P.V.A. Mohandas. The centre is a 1000-bed super multi speciality hospital in India and is well known for its adoption of very high precise and perfect professional standards. Being the leading centre for Orthopaedics and Orthopaedic Research, MIOT Hospitals has World Class Specialties in the field of Joint Replacement Surgeries, Orthopaedics and Trauma Care. COURSES 1. B.Sc. Accident and Emergency Care Technology The increasing number of traumatic accidents resulting in the various types of fractures of bone soft tissue injury require help and care during first 1 to 6 Hrs. Fundamental approaches to handle trauma patients & in addition other emergencies such as cardiac, neurological etc., also will be taught to help the patient to not only survive but also prevent morbidly. Distinctive Benefits: Students will be trained to help in the golden hour after any trauma anywhere to preserve life, limb and reduce deficits. 2. B.Sc. Cardiac Pulmonary Care Technology Cardiopulmonary care technology therapy is an allied health specialty concerned and with evaluation and care of patients with deficiencies and abnormalities associated with diseases of the heart and lung leading to diagnosis of disease. It includes specific testing and monitoring of physiological parameters in cardiac and lung function along with the maintenance of and application of life support apparatus, as well as knowledge regarding the therapeutic use of medical gases and administering apparatus, environmental control systems, medications, ventilatory control and breathing exercises, cardiopulmonary resuscitation and maintenance of natural, artificial and mechanical airways will be taught as a routine. COURSES 3. B.Sc. Critical Care Technology The common subjects of Anatomy, Physiology, Pathology, Medicine & Surgery will prepare the students to understand the actual nature of illness following sudden onset of a failure of the heart lung or kidney to function or even the onset of a stroke. Efficient immediate post operative care, soon after all surgeries on bones, heart, lung, kidney etc., will be taught and hands on training, from day one of the courses, will enable students to recognize critical illness and offer immediately help as necessary to save life. 4. B.Sc. Operation Theatre & Anaesthesia Technology Introduction: The students will be trained in anatomy, physiology, pathology, medicine, surgery and microbiology with emphasis on anaesthesia with the aim of becoming qualified to help the anaesthesiologist. The course entails training of students in both theoretical and practical aspects of operating room technology. The students will be trained in the various aspects of patient care, pre-operative preparation, instrumentation, sterilization, operating room concepts, anaesthesia, operating techniques and assistance to surgeons. Distinctive Benefits: The student will be able to set up requirements for any type of anaesthesia, local, regional or general. They will be able to independently maintain anaesthesia equipment, identify problems and troubleshoot during the anaesthesia. They will be familiar with handling anaesthetic medications, maintaining the emergency crash cart and cardiopulmonary resuscitation techniques. They will be trained by expert personnel in acute cardiopulmonary life support procedures through demonstration. On completion of the course, the student will be able to perform as an operation theatre technologist in all aspects of surgical intervention in patients and be on useful assistant to the anaesthetist.
COURSES 5. Physician Assistant This is a unique programme designed for students who intend to pursue careers in health-related fields. The curriculum prepares students for a wide range of career positions in hospitals, health departments, colleges, research institutions and industry. Based on the interdisciplinary nature of health services, the programme will provide a comprehensive foundation in basic, social science and health science application. Students will be introduced to a wide spectrum of health issues, including socio-cultural influences on health, management, healthcare systems, legal and ethical concerns, nutrition, genetics, mental health and information technology. Special laboratory training will enable the students to take up research in the biomedical field and help in new therapeutic approaches. Students participate in a two-semester internship programme to complete the degree. This will provide the students with the flexibility to design an individualized programme comprising project work with a dissertation based on interest and career goals. The project will be guided by a supervisor based on a one-on-one interaction with the students. 6. Radiology Imaging Technology The common subjects of basics in Anatomy, Physiology, Pathology, Microbiology, Surgery & Medicine taught in the 1st year will prepare the student to understand the nature of disease. The hands on experience in the department of Radiology from day one onwards will enable the student to understand the nature of the illness beginning with routine imaging to CT and MRI scans. COURSES 7. Dialysis Technology This is a three years course in which the candidates are trained in the techniques involved in the various forms of renal dialysis. The candidate are given instruction in basic sciences such as Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Microbiology and Pathology with special reference to the kidney and urinary system. Students are educated especially to prevent infection, to recognize and prevent infection as also to take early action in the control of infection. 8. Nuclear medicine Here the candidate receives instruction in the basic sciences, with references to disease states in general. The use of Radioactive Isotopes in the diagnosis and therapy of various diseases are given in detail. The precise methodology involved in the use of these drugs is also given. Further special care is taken to train the students in the use of relevant sophisticated instruments element involved in this technology. 9. MBA - Hospital & Health Systems Management This is a PG degree course open for graduate in sciences and other Para Medical, Allied Health Subjects such as Physiotherapy, BDS etc. During the 2 yrs study the candidate would be exposed to the entire hospital systems & processes of Hospital/s in order to understand the working and management of the hospital. Includes theory classes on Management of Hospital.
SELECTION PROCEDURE Application Form: Application form, Prospectus and Registration fees: Rs. 1000/- DD in favor of: MIOT Academy of Allied Health Sciences (payable at Chennai) or Cash at MIOT International. Candidates desirous of applying to the Health Science courses should fill in the prescribed application form, available in the hospitals, and send the application along with relevant documents to the hospital address by post only. Instructions For Filling The Application Form: * Affix latest photograph in the space provided. * Select the Course applied for in the space given. * The academic year should be the year in which you are applying. * Ensure that the Date of Birth is written as per the 10th Class Certificate. * Make sure that the permanent and postal address is correct. Also give valid phone number and e-mail address. * In the table, Details of 10+ 2, fill the relevant columns and write NA for subjects which are not applicable. * Incomplete forms will be rejected. Documents To Be Attached: The filled in application form should have attested copies of the following certificates * 10th Mark sheet * 12th/PUC Mark sheet * Passport size photographs - 3 nos. * Transfer certificate * Conduct certificate * Migration certificate Entrance Examination: Once the eligibility criteria are met and the details given in the application form is verified, call letters would be sent to the prospective candidates and they would be called for a Entrance Exam & interview. Candidates should bring the call letter along with them when they appear for the Entrance Exam & Interview. Eligible candidates would appear for the written examination. This examination would be based on the PUC/ 10+2 syllabuses of Physics, Chemistry and Biology. It would also have a section on English, Aptitude and General Knowledge. The questions would be a mix of Objective and Descriptive type. INTERVIEW: Candidates who clear written examination would be short-listed. RESULTS: Result will be announced at that same day of Interview. Admission is open to candidates from all parts of India, provided they meet the eligibility criteria. Applications for admission have to be submitted within 15 days of publication of +2 Results
ADMISSION PROCEDURES Selection: Admission letter will be issued to selected candidates after completion of interview process. Once selection letter is issued, fee has to be paid within 7 days of letter of selection failing which selection will be forfeited.
