2015-16 COACHING STAFF Head Coach Ashley Waters Assistant Coaches Laura Ricciardone Bill McDonald Becca Carden KEY UPCOMING DATES FALL GAMES Saturday, Oct. 17 vs. Dartmouth, 1 p.m. ALUMNI EVENT Saturday, Oct. 17 Home Run Derby, 9:30 a.m. FOLLOW US ON SOCIAL MEDIA It has been an exciting start to our fall season! The month of September gave us two beautiful weekends of competition versus the Maine Black Bears and the Harvard Crimson. We split both weekends, taking the first game in each doubleheader. It was a great opportunity for the coaches to see the endless potential and high energy play this Terrier team possesses. We have one game remaining in the month of October against Dartmouth. Hopefully, the New England weather continues to cooperate and allows us to utilize the field as much as possible before the white stuff arrives. Our softball program has a great tradition of giving back and volunteering their time. Most recently, our girls participated in Making Strides for Breast Cancer with BU Athletics. They spent the morning greeting participants at check-in with their bright personalities and smiles. THE COACH S OFFICE Additionally, junior co-captain Moriah Connolly was honored for the second time with the Bleakney Benedict Scholarship award. Donors of Boston University come together with academic advisors in the athletic department to nominate athletes that meet the specific requirements of the scholarships. Such requirements entail GPA, volunteer hours, and leadership programs. Moriah had the opportunity to speak to the athletic department and donors at this event. She delivered a brilliant speech and represented BU Softball with poise and class. Great job Moriah! The coaching staff has been thrilled to meet current parents, past parents, alumni, and friends. We are grateful for those who have said hello, stopped by, and cheered us on! We love to connect with Terriers, both past and present. Please always feel welcome. @BostonUSoftball @ BostonUSoftball ALUMNI HOME RUN DERBY Our inaugural Alumni Home Run Derby is fast approaching! Join us on Saturday, Oct. 17 at 9:30 a.m. at BU Softball Field. Each alumni will be paired up with a current player to see who can hit the most home runs! Afterwards, stick around after to watch your BU Terriers take on Dartmouth in our final fall game of the year! Stay connected with the BU Softball Alumni Events Facebook page for updates throughout the year! Please RSVP to lericc@bu.edu as soon as possible if you are able to attend! BostonUSoftball 2

MEET THE FRESHMEN - #25 ALEX HEINEN THE FACTS Alex has played softball for 12 years... She was a multisport athlete growing up, competing in basketball, soccer, and volleyball... She has a younger brother named Nicholas, who is currently a sophomore at Santa Margarita Catholic High School... Alex has a dog named Fonzarelli... She is considering pursuing a career in film and television production. Q&A 1) What has been the biggest adjustment to life in college? The biggest adjustment so far is learning how to manage time being even more independent now than I was in high school. This has definitely taught me to be more responsible for my actions, especially Drumroll please, we are excited to finally announce our spring schedule (check out page five)! This season, your Terriers will travel south to open up at the Charleston Southern Tournament in South Carolina on Feb 19. The following weekend, we will be in sunny Florida at FAU s tournament in Boca Raton! Our spring break will be spent in Southern California. We will be playing in tournaments at San Diego State University and UC Riverside, while also playing a midweek game at Loyola Marymount. SCHEDULE UPDATE when it comes to finding a balance between an academic, athletic, and social life. 2) How did if feel playing in your first collegiate fall game? It was such a great experience to step on the field with an amazing group of teammates and coaches. There is also nothing better than representing not only your team but also Boston University. 3) What have you learned so far about being a college athlete? Being a college athlete is a very big commitment, but it is definitely one of the most rewarding things. It has taught me to be hardworking and responsible for academics, athletics, and my social life. Come mid-march, we ll make our way back to the east coast, heading to Maryland for a weekend tournament. Our first home game of the season will be on March 16 against Providence. In total, we will be hosting 15 games in March and April. The Patriot League schedule will commence at Army West Point on March 26. Our preseason schedule will challenge us and prepare us to compete for a 2016 Patriot League title. We look forward to seeing you all at the field! NEW ADDITION BU Softball is proud to announce the newest addition to our program freshmen Alexa Ponce from San Pedro, Calif. SCHOLAR-ATHLETES Congrats to recent alums Mandy Fernandez and Kendra Meadows on being named 2014-15 NFCA Scholar-Athletes. They both had a GPA of 3.50 or greater! TURNPIKE TROPHY Over the summer, BU and Holy Cross announced the creation of the Turnpike Trophy competition, an athletic series between the in-state Patriot League rivals that will span at least 21 varsity sports in its inaugural year. For softball, points will be awarded on whoever wins the weekend series. More points could be awarded if we face off in the PL tournament. The trophy will be awarded to the school with the most points at year s end. We re looking forward to continuing our rivalry with the Crusaders! 3
