Sigma Pi Alumni, Spring 2014 Edition Greetings Sigma Pi Alpha Eta Actives and Alumni! As we close out the 2013-2014 school year, we would like to extend our thanks to the Alumni of our very own Alpha-Eta Chapter for their continued interest and support. We hope that this newsletter will serve to create a closer connection between not only our current brotherhood and alums, but also to connect alumni who may have grown out of touch. CHAPTER NEWS FALL 2013 Housing: This Spring marks our second consecutive semester in the new fraternity housing on campus. With the opening of our insured Housing Account, we have been able to transform what was basically a glorified dorm into a real home, decked out with decorations and furniture in all the common areas. We invite any alumni who have yet to see the new fraternity houses to come on down and check them out, as they are pretty incredible. We are noticing a greater need to make our fraternity house more unique, and our Housing Account is the best way we have to really make the Sigma Pi house have Sigma Pi character. We have implemented ideas where

donations to the account could be earmarked for special purchases, with the intention of setting up a honorary plaque to commemorate the donor. All gift donations must be made out to: The College of William and Mary Foundation, with the allocation number (3798). This account and allocation number will allow us to improve and decorate the chapter house with furniture and other enhancements, all insured by William and Mary. Any questions regarding this account can be directed to Alumni Chairman Jacob Ball (jdball@email.wm.edu) or Treasurer Bennett Levine (bflevine@email.wm.edu). The Active Chapter of Spring 2014 gathers in front of the chapter house, post-exams.

Sigma Pi Brothers try to catch the lunar eclipse outside the chapter house. Recruitment Spring 2014: We had a very successful rush this spring, initiating our Alpha Pi Pledge Class of 7 neophytes. The new initiates include men from all over the country, from all walks of life, all with unique qualities that they can bring to the Alpha Eta chapter. They are an amazing group of men, and we are happy to welcome them into our brotherhood. We hope that alumni, both recent grads and established professionals will come back to Williamsburg and get to know this great group of guys!

New Members Marcus Prater and Matt Cho at the Chapter House Membership Involvement: Members of our chapter continue to be involved in many extracurricular activities at

William and Mary outside of the fraternity, almost always taking on leadership roles. Stephen Kang is the head coach of the William and Mary Club Lacrosse team. Brothers Alec Shobe and Ignacio Garcia host radio shows at the college radio station, which is available for listening at http://web.wm.edu/so/wcwm/. The Financial Modeling Club at the Mason School of Business saw Vice Presidents Paul Fulford and Jacob Ball win second terms. Furthermore, Sigma Pi had quite the haul at the annual William and Mary Greek Award Ceremony. John Bracaglia and Thomas Fergus, Sages past and present, won Outstanding Greek Man and Outstanding Emerging Leader awards respectively. Additionally, the entire chapter won an award for Excellence in Alumni Relations. Thanks to all our Alumni for their help in this process!! Social Updates: Our continued strength in providing a quality social schedule was evident this past semester. Our social schedule was packed with mixers, date functions and more. In addition to normal social events, we hosted 3 live bands for a performance that brought down the house, figuratively and almost literally! Sigma Pi Woodstock, 2014 was a live music festival which saw the return of The Reef, a Norfolk reggae group, the up and coming Richmond act Sleepwalkers, as well as our very own Five O Clock and the Somewheres. The concert was a huge success, drawing a great turnout from both College students and a few Williamsburg locals alike! We hope to make this event an annual and consistent outlet for musical talent from around the area. Hopefully someday we ll be able to pull the same caliber acts as the original Woodstock.

Brotherhood: One of the highlights of the Spring semester s social calendar was our yearly Brotherhood Beach week. This year we traveled down to Corolla in North Carolina s sunny Outer Banks for a week, post-exams, away from the hustle and bustle of school life. The entire brotherhood spent the week soaking up rays and making the most out of the absolutely outstanding beaches. In addition to kicking it on the beach, our rental house was decked out with a hot tub, a pool, a billiards table, 3 levels of wraparound porch, with beach views from the top level, and a two grill back porch for firing up some excellent steaks, burgers and brats. Brothers and guests hanging out at beach week (from left): Arianna Lyons, Jacob Ball, Ignacio Garcia, Brian Garland, Kit Murray, Dylan Kirksey, Akshay Murthy, Kalynn McLane, Chris Arthur

Graduating Seniors: (from left) Alan Harris, John Bracaglia, and Taylor Burke Graduating Seniors: On a sad note, the Chapter says farewell to an outstanding senior class, as they continue their journey of life wherever it takes them. We d like to congratulate Chris Arthur, Jacob Berghuis, John Bracaglia, Taylor Burke, T.J. Harrington, Alan Harris, Sam Hoy, Lee Kripke and Richard Schwartz for completing their college careers. The impact that these men have had on our brotherhood cannot be overstated and they will be sorely missed even as we cheer them on to the next phases of their lives.

GOLD Alumni Membership An initiative starting this year to encourage Alumni to take an active role in the current chapter, the GOLD Alumni Membership program has already had great success. We would like to take some time and space to recognize the alumni who have earned GOLD Alumni Membership. John McCulla, Class of 1979 Edward Pool, Class of 1979 James Garber, Class of 2008 Jeff Terry, Class of 1996 Todd Jenkins, Class of 1995 Donate Online Today to be a Part of our GOLD Alumni Program! http://tinyurl.com/q82v4oy Follow Sigma Pi Alpha-Eta Online On Twitter On Facebook And Linkedin
