SIPES An Independents Oil and Gas Association New Orleans Chapter s ~ Monthly Newsletter Society of Independent Professional Earth Scientists Volume 07 Number 3 March 2007 Mission: To be the pre-eminent organization for furthering the professional and business interests of independent practitioners of the earth sciences. Mike Austin National Officer March 20, 2007 at Andrea's Restaurant 11:30 a.m. From The Chairman: Ken Huffman The azaleas are blooming, the spring weather has been great, and more is in the air than the pine tree pollen. The National board Meeting is coming to town on the 19 th, and the board members will be attending our luncheon on the 20 th. If your schedule does not allow you to attend the Board Meeting at the Royal Omni Hotel, you should make an attempt to be at our monthly lunch as it should be very informative for us all. A.T. Green is to receive the API Meritorious Award at their meeting on Wednesday, March 21, 2007. The meeting will be held at the Le Pavilion Hotel starting at 11:15 am. Congratulations to a local SIPES member and a well deserving member of the New Orleans community. This is the time of year when attention also turns to the officers for next year. The current administration has served for two years, and most are looking for other members to step forward. Our membership has been hit hard since the storm. A number of our members have decided not to put their offices back together and retired. Many have relocated their businesses to other towns or have been forced to relocate due to career changes. These changes are placing a lot of pressure on the local chapter. Please think of volunteering for a position on the local board by notifying Rodney Rymer or myself. Get moving before the pollen settles on you and have a great spring. Ken Calendar of Meetings: Remaining dates of the Spring Luncheon meetings at Andrea s Restaurant at 11:30 a.m. are: 3/20, 4/17, and May Night Meeting 5/15. Items From February Board Meeting In Attendance: Ken Huffman, Chairman; Paul Perret, Vice Chairman; Rodney Rymer, Past Chairman; Jeanne Phelps, National Director Newsletter, 2008 National Convention Chairman; Jim Zotkiewicz, Secretary. 1) SIPES-NOC will donate $300 ($150/person) for 2 winners travel expenses of the GNO Science Fair. 2) The API Delta Chapter has awarded A.T. Green a Meritous Service Award to be given at their monthly luncheon March 21, 2007 at the La Pavillion Hotel. (Continued on page 3) Page 1
