They must ensure that when agreement has been given for a child or young person to visit that appropriate arrangements are made to ensure the comfort and safety of that child and for maintaining the privacy and dignity of other patients on the ward. The Policy for the Visiting of Psychiatric Patients by Children sets out how Cardiff and Vale University Health Board will ensure that All mental health wards should implement the policy or visiting of psychiatric patients by children. Where such visits are agreed the hospital has a duty to ensure that the visiting child is not put at risk by arranging for a visit to take place in a room separate and away from the ward area. Given that we house much more riskier patients on LSU that is the option For restricted clients the teams will have to get permission from court or Ministry of Justice to continue with the visit This would not mean we are discriminating but it is an additional procedure the Consultants will have to carry out to ensure a balance of patient rights and child protection. If such procedure is made part of our day to day work then the teams should be able to identify and Alternatives have been put in place until proposed new build is complete in 2015.
