For Immediate Release December 13, 2017 Media Contact: Michael Bohne (518) 434-2532 City of Albany s Receive $10.3 Million from Regional Economic Development Council (REDC) Initiative Round VII Capital Region Top Performer Awarded $85 Million ALBANY The New York State Regional Economic Development Council (REDC) initiative awarded City of Albany projects with approximately $10.3 million ($10,313,807) in funding Wednesday. Overall, the Capital Region a top performer was awarded a total of $85 million in funding for 110 projects. Of these 110 projects, 16 directly benefit activities within the City of Albany and will catalyze strategic initiatives and job creation. This year s Regional Economic Development Council funding will allow Albany and the Region to harness opportunities for economic growth, said Albany Mayor Kathy M. Sheehan. It is exciting to see new funding made in this area and I want to thank Governor Cuomo for the investments he s made through this year s Round Seven Regional Council initiative. I look forward to seeing additional development and continuing to unleash Albany s and the Region s potential. In meeting Governor Cuomo s and the Regional Council s challenge this year more than $10 million will now support several strategic investments throughout the City of Albany having an incredible impact on the capital city s building momentum, said Capitalize Albany Corporation president Sarah Reginelli. We look forward to assisting these projects as they move forward and begin to catalyze new opportunities, create jobs and strengthen Albany s economic vitality. As part of the Regional Economic Development Council Initiative, prior to this year s round the Capital Region was awarded $83.1 million in Round VI, $98.1 million in Round V, $60 million in Round IV, $82.8 million in Round III, $50.3 million in Round II and nearly $63 million in Round I. Artistic Workforce Expansion Albany Barn seeks support to expand its part-time Programming and Operations Coordinator to a full-time Associate Director of Programming and Residencies. This expanded position will maximize the economic opportunity offered to artists and increase public awareness of the creative work being produced within its incubator facilities. ACAP Career Services Albany County Opportunity, Inc. will facilitate Albany Community Action Partnership (ACAP) s Career Services to provide occupational skills training and related assistance, including career and employability skills development, and job placement, job retention, and supportive services. This will contribute to the outcome of long-term employment in high growth/ high demand occupations with career advancement opportunities. DOL UWT $99,025 76817 Albany Albany Water Board City of Albany, Floatables Control Facilities The Albany Water Board will build two Floatables Control Facilities to collect floatable debris and materials associated with several combined sewer outfalls in the City. The project will reduce the floatable materials conveyed to the Hudson River and serve to treat urban stormwater runoff, thereby reducing phosphorus, nitrogen, metals and other suspended solids. 75147 Albany City of Albany Broadway Streetscape 76021 Albany City of Albany Local Waterfront Revitalization Program Amendment The City of Albany will make major streetscape improvements to link Albany s Warehouse District with the Business Downtown Improvement District. The City will invest in new lighting, sidewalks, intersections/ crosswalks, street trees and furniture to improve vehicular, bicycle and pedestrian safety, and improve transit connections to facilitate new investment in businesses, housing and commercial development in the Warehouse District. The City of Albany will complete an amendment to its 1991 Local Waterfront Revitalization Program (LWRP). The LWRP Amendment will address emerging issues and needs in the city s Hudson River waterfront area, incorporate recently completed zoning and sustainability regulations, explore the feasibility of developing an inland marina and identify projects to create a vibrant waterfront, improve connectivity and promote economic investment and revitalization of Albany s downtown and waterfront. ESD Grants $150,000 DOS LWRP $85,000 75160 Albany City of Albany South End Connector Lowline The South End Connector Lowline will be the second phase of the Albany Waterfront Connector, a critical 1.5 mile link between the Albany County Helderberg- Hudson Rail Trail and the Mohawk Hudson Bike Hike Trail. This link will transform an inactive, underutilized space into a vibrant active link from the south end to the waterfront and downtown. OPRHP RTP NMD $200,000

DOL UWT $100,000 75478 Albany Palace Performing Arts Center Inc Palace Theatre Renovation and Revitalization The Palace Performing Arts Center Inc. will renovate and modernize the Palace Theater s infrastructure, improve seating and accessibility, enhance the stage and backstage support services, and create an offstreet loading dock. ESD Grants $2,500,000 76397 Albany St. Peter's Hospital Foundation, Inc. Central Processing Technician St. Peter's Hospital Foundation will provide job skills training to increase the number of Sterile Processing Technicians. These technicians provide the services of decontamination, packaging, sterilization, and storage and distribution of reusable medical instrumentation or devices used in the hospital's surgical suites and other patient care areas. Erie Canalway 200 Marketing Campaign The Erie Canalway Heritage Fund, will develop and launch a multiyear marketing campaign to promote multi-day cycling, paddling, and walking/hiking adventures along the 524-mile waterway and 365- mile Erie Canalway Trail and 62-mile Champlain Canalway Trail. This campaign positions NYS as a destination of choice for adventure seekers and further solidifies the Erie Canalway as a place where bold vision and accomplishment come together to achieve results. 71662 Albany, Columbia, Greene, Schenectady, Warren, Washington University at Albany Innovate 518 - Capital Region Innovation Hot Spot Innovate 518 will connect startups throughout the Capital Region with the resources to help them generate sound business models and customer development practices, as well as attract investment capital from outside the region. Focus will also be on RD and technology transfer from a variety of sources in industry clusters in advanced manufacturing, health sciences, clean energy, advanced analytics, cybersecurity, and agriculture to commercialize and bring innovative ideas to market. River Sings New York Music Festival River Sings New York brings the Albany Symphony to seven communities in Upstate NY. From high in the Adirondacks to the Hudson Valley the music festival will present free outdoor summer concerts featuring new collaborative compositions with local arts groups celebrating each town's industrial heritage and future innovation. Arts ACIP $75,000 74963 Albany, Saratoga Children's Museum of Science and Technology The Children s Museum of Science and Technology Relocation The Children s Museum of Science and Technology Relocation is to relocate the museum from its current location in North Greenbush to a centrally accessible location in the Capital Region, which will allow for the museum to serve a greater audience in the region. 75846 Albany, Schenectady Albany- Schoharie- Schenectady- Saratoga Board of Cooperative Educational Services CTE Welding and HVAC Program Capital Region BOCES will purchase equipment for its welding and metal fabrication and heating, ventilation, air- conditioning and refrigeration programs of study. Through its Career and Technical School, BOCES will provide advanced training for secondary students and adults, preparing them to enter the workforce or pursue advanced training at specialized technical schools or colleges. ESD Grants $130,000 73394 Albany, Schenectady Capital Region BOCES Capital Region Shared Student Transportation II The Capital Region BOCES will coordinate shared transportation system busing of students to out of district sites. The consolidated school district transportation services will eliminate some bus runs for the 23 school districts and redirect funds to educational programs and services.
