General Information COURSE DESCRIPTION The 2018 Haitian Acute and Emergency Care Conference offers lectures, case presentations, hands on training in sonography, EKG, chest radiograph interpretation and simulation based airway management and team training. The education design, instructional method and learning format is chosen to best serve the educational needs and objectives specific for this activity. A local and international multidisciplinary faculty from various Haitian hospitals working in the Emergency Care field, Mayo Clinic, University of Maryland and Global Surgical and Destination Healthcare provides state-of-the-art training in acute and emergency medical care in Haiti. The presentations given by local experts providing a contextual approach to the current evaluation and management of commonly encountered acute medical conditions. LEARNING OBJECTIVES Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to: Summarize an approach to shock. Summarize a management approach to acute respiratory failure. Describe the guidelines and pragmatic approach to treating hypertensive crisis. Describe the guidelines and pragmatic approach to treating chest pain. Describe the guidelines and pragmatic approach to treating sepsis in low resource settings. Describe a pragmatic approach to diagnosis and management of edema in low resource settings. Review the evaluation and treatment of traumatic bleeding Describe the use of bedside sonography to evaluate hypotension and respiratory failure. Describe the use of basic airway support equipment. Summarize an approach to interpreting telemetry and basic electrocardiography. Describe the use of continuous positive airway pressure devices for respiratory failure. Describe a team approach to acute hospital care and cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
