Page 4 WHAT IS THE VALUE OF ONE MEMBER? Author Unknown Ten little members standing in a line. One disliked the President, then there were nine. Nine ambitious members offered to work late, One forgot her promise, then there were eight. Eight creative members, had ideas as good as heaven, One lost enthusiasm, then there were seven. Seven loyal members got into a fix. They quarreled over programs, and then there were six. One dropped out and then there were five. Five happy members, not one a bore, Till they fought over bingo, then there were four. Four cheerful members who never disagree, Till one complained of meetings, then there were three. Three members left. All of them blue. One joined a bowling league, then there were two. Two tired members, our rhyme is nearly done, One joined a bridge club, and then there was one. One faithful member was feeling rather blue. Met with a neighbor, and then there were two. Two earnest members each enrolled one more, Doubling their numbers, then there were four. Four determined members just couldn t wait, Till each won another, and then there were eight! Eight excited members, signed up sixteen more. In another six verses there will be a thousand and twenty-four!

Page 5 Columbus Day ride. Post 9808 Riders Fred Kuester, Ray Bassetti, Ron Scoville, and Phil Hudson along with Roger Shiflett enjoyed a 250 mile lunch ride today to Hank's Grill & Bar 7-1/2 miles east of Harrisonburg on Route 33. Outstanding ribs and brisket. VFW Post 9808 Riders participated in presenting the colors at the Fred Funk and Friends Golf Tournament. The tournament raised $180,000.00 for Virginia Veterans. Participating members were Ray Bassetti, Krag Cash, Buck Buchanan, Fred Kuester, and Phil Hudson. Left: Ray Bassetti, Marvin Johnson, Al Salazar, Phil Hudson, and Andy Whatley honored the Commander of Post 6364. Color Guard Captain Sean Kennedy not shown.

Page 6 Left: Post 9808 hosted Congressman Rob Wittman and a town hall on Veterans. Along with discussing policy, we heard about the successful partnership the Congressman and the Post have. Recently, they helped a veteran who received implants to hear better. They were able to coordinate a new iphone for the veteran that has an app designed for the implants allowing the veteran to hear even better. The veteran, on the far right of the picture, told us how he listened to music for the first time in 15 years. That, folks, is the REAL VFW! Honor Flight. The Hanover Police escorted us to 295 and when we entered 295 we were alongside the Honor Flight from Newport News. Perfect timing. We then joined up with that group and had a somewhat wet but great ride.

Page 7 Working a collaboration between 9808 and 6364 to cook hamburgers and hot dogs for Marine Reservists and their families. Another way your Post makes a difference.
