ANNUAL FIELD EXERCISE 2017 INFORMATION BULLETIN 1 WHAT ARE THE DATES FOR AFX17? 1. AFX17 will be conducted over the period Sat, 23 Sep 17 to Sun, 01 Oct 17. WHAT IS THE STAFF TO CADET RATIO FOR AFX 17? 2. The minimum staff to cadets ratio for AFX17 is 1 ACS per 20 cadets. That means that if you bring 20 cadets to camp you must send at least one ACS. This ratio will ensure appropriate supervision levels and enable us to conduct concurrent ACS training (eg: field training for junior ACS; driver famil. courses etc). 3. If your unit cannot comply with this requirement, then unfortunately, your cadets will not be able to attend AFX17. 4. Defence Approved Helpers are authorised to attend AFX17. WHAT ARE THE KEY DATES FOR AFX17? 5. Key dates for AFX17 are as follows: a. 08 Jul 17: AFX17 Conference (Irwin Barracks) b. 31 Aug 17: Cut-off for cadets to be enrolled and still come to AFX; c. 31 Aug 17: Last date for nominations for tiers / courses. To ensure that the specialist courses are filled in an equitable manner, The SO2 TRG and BN COMDs will oversee this process.
18. If you have any issue with nominating on the Workspace see your BN COMD. 2 19. Note, the AFX17 Workspace is being designed to prevent cadets being nominated for Tiers / Courses they are not qualified to attend. 20. However, please note cadets who "slip through the net" and are found to have been nominated for a Tier / Course they are not entitled to attend will have to be reallocated. WHAT WILL MY STAFF BE DOING DURING ANNUAL CAMP? 21. All ACS, ADF, DAH, CUO and CDTWO2 will be posted into instructional positions by the Brigade, (hopefully in accordance with member's stated preference). If members of your team have any preferences, please advise the SO2 Pers ASAP. 22. Generally speaking CUO and CDTWO2 will not be permitted to attend Tier 3 as participants, they will be allocated as Instructors on Tiers. COMPETITIONS 23. The Competitions Officer for AFX17 is CAPT (AAC) Andrew Hayes. More details on the Competitions Day will be published in the next Bulletin although the format will be similar to 2016. 24. Maps, stand locations and the rotation diagram will all be issued at a Competitions O-Group held before Competitions Day. Senior cadets and unit staff will be invited to this briefing. PRE-COURSE TESTING FOR CUO/WO 2018 25. Pre-course testing for candidates attending the CUO/WO course in 2018 will be conducted at AFX17. 26. More information on the subjects to be covered in the pre-course test and how it will be accessed will be covered in the CUO/WO course Bulletin to be issued separately. WILL THERE BE CONCURRENT TRAINING FOR ACS? 27. The answer is Yes hopefully! Much depends on the instructional support we receive for AFX17 and how many ACS attend. The more staff that attend, the better will be the opportunities we can provide. 28. There will also be an opportunity for newly appointed ACS to attend some Military Skills training. Further, if a testing officer can be identified, it may be possible to conduct some vehicle familiarisation training. CONCLUSION 29. If you have any questions about AFX17, please feel free to contact the ASSTCOMD on the number / email shown.
