1 St. Francis Principal s Newsletter November 2018 School Mass November - Gratitude is being thankful for every gift and lesson we learn. Give thanks to the LORD for his good, his mercy endures forever! 1 Peter 107:1 During the month of November our students will be working on showing gratitude for every gift and lesson we learn! Our students will be working on being thankful for the blessings they receive. Part of showing God how grateful we are for our blessings is to share our blessings with others. As in previous years we will be hosting a Thanksgiving basket for one of our St. Vincent de Paul families. Each grade level will be responsible for filling the basket with a Thanksgiving meal! During our religion classes our students will also be learning how to pray prayers of thankfulness and to reflect on the many gifts God provides to us as a school, a family, or themselves. ST. FRANCIS OF ASSISI CATHOLIC SCHOOL CELEBRATES ALL SAINTS DAY All Saints' Day is a solemn holy day of the Catholic Church celebrated annually on November 1. The day is dedicated to the saints of the Church, that is, all those who have attained heaven. Our students will be learning about a saint in their classroom! Some classrooms will be researching individual saints and sharing them with their class! We encourage all students to dress up as their favorite saint this Thursday, November 1! For every class that has 100% attendance on assessment dates they will earn a Principal s Award for following the Diligent Learner who is actively engaged in his/her own learning! Student Council St. Vincent de Paul Food Drive When we began the school year, we took the opportunity to teach our students about the Gospel Values. One of the Gospel Values that we continue to work on is Gratitude, Being thankful for every gift and lesson I learn. We will be showing our gratitude for all the blessings God gives to us by helping those less fortunate. For the past few years our Student Council has worked very closely with the St. Francis Saint Vincent de Paul Society by bringing in food items to stock their pantry and also by helping to organize the food boxes that are given to local families. This year
each grade will be adopting a St. Vincent de Paul family for Thanksgiving. This consists of bringing food items that can go into a Thanksgiving basket. We are hoping that these baskets will provide our adopted families with an amazing Thanksgiving dinner. Our St. Francis Student Council will be purchasing the turkeys that will go with the baskets. We encourage all students to participate and hope that they have a sense of selflessness in giving when they see their class basket full of food for their adopted families. Below you will see the list of items students will be assigned by their teacher to bring. Feel free to bring other items that are not listed. All items are due Friday, November 16, 2018. Please send in an email to your teacher to let them know if you do not want to participate. 2 boxes of mashed potatoes 2 cans of green beans 2 cans of yams 1 bag of brown sugar 2 pies 2 cans of fruit 1 container cool whip (please bring freezer items Nov.16) 2 2-liter sodas 2 boxes of stuffing mix 2 cans of corn 2 jars of gravy 2 cans of chicken broth 2 bags dinner rolls 1 bag of marshmallows 1 turkey - Student Council will purchase St. Francis Student Council would like to thank you in advance for your support in helping us make a special Thanksgiving meal for a St. Vincent de Paul family! FRANCIS CHRISTMAS PROGRAM We are in the process of having our eighth grades audition for the Christmas program! We are excited to announce the Christmas program date, Tuesday, December 18, 2018 at 6:00 pm. CTSO As the end of the year approaches, now is the time to plan your giving. As you plan, we would like you to consider contributing your dollar-for-dollar Arizona state income tax credit to CTSO-St. Francis of Assisi Catholic School to support Catholic school education. There are various ways to donate, so please take the time to review the CTSO informational flyer in the Brown Envelope. If you have questions or need more information, we are happy to help. Mrs. Alma Lopez is available during office hours and parent volunteer, Nerissa Freeman is also available at nerissafreeman@gmail.com, or (602) 402-1964.
Example of Giving: Mr. & Mrs. Francis would like to give to CTSO. The Francis visits www.ctso-tucson.org and selects Make My Tax Credit Contribution Now. Francis fills out the pertinent information, and selects St. Francis Yuma to be his school of choice to send his funds to, and uses his debit/credit card to send the maximum married amount of $2,213 to CTSO. Fast Forward to April, when Mr. & Mrs. Francis are completing their taxes, they select Made a donation to an STO and enter the amount. Now, when they receive their taxes, they receive their money back as a tax credit or a state tax refund check for $2,213. The Francis put that money back into their checking account. Keep your tax dollars at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic School and help make high-quality Catholic Education accessible, available, and affordable for all! Box Tops Send in your BOX TOPS for Education labels! When you have collected 25 you are eligible to choose a prize from the Library Treasure Chest. We are happy to announce that we met our deadline for the 1st Box-Tops submission date for the year! Please continue to send your Box-Tops to school with your student. Your child will be able to choose a prize from the treasure box in the library for every 25 they turn in! Our next submission to the Box Tops program will be in March 2019.
