EXXONMOBIL / LNESC SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM The ExxonMobil / LNESC Scholarship Program is intended to assist and encourage outstanding Hispanic high school seniors who plan to pursue a degree in engineering at U. S. post-secondary institutions. The ExxonMobil / LNESC Scholarship Program is sponsored by the Exxon Mobil Corporation and is administered by the LULAC National Educational Service Centers (LNESC). The ExxonMobil / LNESC Scholarship Program will award one (1) national scholarship of $20,000, paid over four years, and twelve (12) $2,000 local scholarships to qualified high school seniors. Applicants must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or better on a 4.0 scale or the equivalent; AND students must have scored 29 or higher on the ACT test, or 1350 or higher on the SAT test (sum of critical reading and mathematics scores); and plan to enroll full-time in an accredited college or university. The ExxonMobil /LNESC Scholarship Program is available to qualifying students residing within the following cities and surrounding areas: Colorado Springs, CO Pueblo, CO Miami, FL Kansas City, MO Albuquerque NM Philadelphia, PA Bayamon, PR Corpus Christi, TX Houston, TX Dallas, TX El Paso, TX San Antonio, TX Note: It is only necessary to fill out one application to participate in the ExxonMobil / LNESC Scholarship Program. Students may only receive one (1) scholarship. If an applicant is awarded a national scholarship, then they will no longer be eligible for a local scholarship. NATIONAL SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM The national scholarship award of $20,000 is renewable for up to four years based on academic performance. The recipient will receive $5,000 annually in the form of two equal disbursements of $2,500 made on September 15 and January 31 of each year. The national scholar is required to enroll as a full-time student and to maintain a cumulative college grade point average of at least a 3.0 on a 4.0 scale or the equivalent to be eligible for the second scholarship disbursement. After completion of the fall semester, the recipient must submit a copy of their fall grade report and proof of their full-time spring enrollment status to the LNESC National Office to receive the spring semester disbursement. Scholarship awards are sent directly to the recipient s college or university and deposited in the recipient s name. The funds will be allocated toward the payment of tuition and academic fees, and the purchase of required educational materials and books. The school is custodian of the funds and will disburse the award consistent with the purpose of this program. LOCAL SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM The local scholarship awards of $2,000 will be divided into two equal disbursements of $1,000 made on September 15 and January 31. Local scholarships are nonrenewable. After completion of the fall semester, the recipient must submit proof of their full-time spring enrollment status to the LNESC National Office to receive the spring semester disbursement. Scholarship awards are sent directly to the recipient s college or university and deposited in the recipient s name. The funds will be allocated toward the payment of tuition and academic fees, and the purchase of required educational materials and books. The school is custodian of the funds and will disburse the award consistent with the purpose of this program.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must meet the following criteria to be considered for a scholarship: Must be a graduating high school senior. Must be a Hispanic student accepted into and planning to attend a full-time program in engineering leading to a bachelor s degree at an accredited college or university in the U.S. Must have a cumulative high school grade point average of at least 3.5 on a 4.0 scale or the equivalent. Must have scored 29 or higher on the ACT test, or 1350 or higher on the SAT test (sum of critical reading and mathematics scores). Must be a U. S. Citizen or have the legal right to work in the U.S. without requiring sponsorship now or in the future. APPLICATION PROCESS: Applicants must submit the following by May 1, 2014 Completed and signed application form Official high school transcript Three letters of recommendation, including a complete telephone number and email address for each reference Typed personal statement of not more than 300 words describing your professional and career goals TIME SCHEDULE March 14: Application available online at www.lnesc.org May 1: Deadline for submitting completed applications to the LNESC National Office June 13: Finalists will be notified of their award Sept. 15: First scholarship disbursement is sent to college/university January 15: Deadline for recipients to submit copy of their fall grade report and proof of enrollment for spring semester to LNESC January 31: Second scholarship disbursement is sent to college/university...
