Cerritos College Associate Degree Nursing Program and Nursing Course Student Learning Outcomes Program Student Learning Outcomes Program Student Learning Outcomes describe graduate behaviors that align with the program s mission and philosophy and the nursing core concepts within the curriculum framework that determine competent performance for entry level practice in accordance to the Board of Registered Nursing (BRN). STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOME #1: The graduate will integrate physiological and psychosocial concepts, along with critical thinking and clinical reasoning to apply nursing process to promote quality, safe, patient centered care. a. First Year: The student will begin to apply the nursing process with basic principles of health teaching, health promotion, risk reduction, and end of life care to provide quality, safe, patient centered care to an individual and family. b. Second Year: The student will apply the nursing process and integrate principles of health teaching, health promotion, and risk reduction, and will coordinate end of life care to provide quality, safe, patient centered care to an individual, family, and /or community with complex healthcare needs. STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOME #2: The graduate will promote and maintain a safe environment by integrating current evidence based practice, information technology, and skill competency to deliver quality health care. a. First Year: The student will begin to apply evidence-based nursing practice to demonstrate skill competency and to safely provide nursing care. b. Second Year: The student will apply evidence-based nursing practice to demonstrate skill competency and to safely provide comprehensive nursing care for patients and families in acute and complex care situations. STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOME #3: The graduate will therapeutically communicate and collaborate with culturally diverse patients, families, and the interprofessional health care team to achieve quality patient centered care. a. First Year: The student will utilize therapeutic communication skills while learning to practice in the professional nursing role. b. Second Year: The student will apply principles of therapeutic communication and delegation to manage care for culturally diverse patients, families, and the community with complex healthcare needs. STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOME #4: The graduate will demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and attitude required of the professional nurse, embracing lifelong learning to improve the quality of health care. a. First Year: The student will assume responsibility and accountability for learning and nursing actions, recognizing legal and ethical concerns and advocating for patients and families. b. Second Year: The student will assume responsibility and accountability for lifelong learning and nursing actions, making clinical decisions, advocating for patients and families, and recognizing reporting responsibilities with legal issues and ethical dilemmas.
