2018 NEUROSCIENCE NURSING CONFERENCE About the Pickup Family Neurosciences Institute Pickup Family Neurosciences Institute coordinates the West Coast s most comprehensive constellation of clinical programs for patients with brain and spine problems. Each program has a strategically driven, physician led team of multidisciplinary clinicians and affiliated staff who meet regularly, with navigators for out-patient and in-patient care integration focusing on a specific disease process including memory and cognition disorders, stroke, brain tumors, epilepsy, Parkinson s / movement disorders, Multiple Sclerosis, back pain, headache, mental health, pituitary tumors, addiction medicine, sleep disorders and acute neuro rehabilitation. The programs collect health outcomes, patient satisfaction and financial metrics, while utilizing evidence-based care pathways, and offering clinical research, the latest technology, and the most appropriate patient focused facilities. Conference Overview This program will focus on the latest research and evidence-based practices in the care of neurological patients. The multidisciplinary speakers will explore current and future trends in neuroscience that will lead to optimal patient outcomes. This cutting-edge educational event is pertinent to nurses and other health care professionals interested in advancing their knowledge of neurosciences. Objectives Define the role of various diagnostic imaging modalities in the work up of neurologic conditions Summarize the new AHA/ASA stroke guidelines for extending the thrombectomy window out to 24 hours for ischemic stroke Explain the ABCDEF Bundle and how it affects patient care in a hospital setting Describe the history of marijuana use, review current randomized controlled trials of CBD oil use in epilepsy and identify the patients for whom use of CBD, based on the current research, appears to be the most beneficial Explain Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE), its symptoms and long term effects Define Neurologic Rehabilitation assessments and treatment goals Explain the healing power of music Who Should Attend All registered nurses and allied health professionals working in the practice and care of neurological patients.
