1 Dear Prospective Volunteer: Thank you for contacting New Directions Career Center (NDCC) with an interest in serving as a volunteer. The Center offers a variety of programs to empower women in transition to achieve and maintain economic self-sufficiency. Enclosed with this letter is the NDCC Volunteer Interest Application Form, along with a schedule of current programs and services. These materials should help orient you to the volunteer opportunities available at New Directions Career Center. You may also wish to look at our website, for further information. The efforts of our volunteers have a significant impact on the women who come through our doors. In the fiscal year alone, individuals volunteered 5,829 hours of service to support our mission and give back to the community by sharing their time and talents. The value attributed to this generous gift of time (using IRS guidelines) was $118,387. If you would like to volunteer your time and talent to the Center, please complete the Volunteer Interest Application enclosed. Food Preparation: Food preparation may include: providing home-made or purchased appetizers or desserts, soft drinks or other beverages, plates, cups, utensils, napkins and other items as needed. Mailing Assistance: Mailing campaign duties may include: printing letters and/or labels, assembling materials, stuffing and sealing envelopes, and other duties as needed. Office/Clerical Assistance: Office/clerical assistance may include: data entry, word processing, filing, answering phones and/or the door, and other duties as needed. Maintenance Assistance: Maintenance assistance may include: painting, cleaning, minor repairs, moving supplies or furniture, or other tasks as needed. Technology/Media Assistance: Technology/media assistance may include: creating advanced spreadsheets; desktop publishing/graphic design; assistance with web development or updates; social media marketing; audio/visual support at events or for program activities, and other tasks as needed. B s Boutique Needs Clothing Donations: Donate professional attire and/or accessories; recruiting volunteer assistance; picking up and/or dropping off donations and other duties as needed. Image Consultation: Image consultation involves helping NDCC graduates shop, fit, and accessorize professional attire either for job interviews and/or daily employment needs. Service Delivery: Service delivery for B s Boutique may include presenting the B s Boutique Orientation information to women in the New Directions program (monthly); conducting an education workshop about professional attire guidelines, fashion trends, etc.; creating and distributing tip sheets for fashion and/or professional image. Donation Assistance: Donation duties may include unpacking, sorting, steaming, hanging, sizing, and displaying clothing, as well as entering inventory data. Donation Days are Fridays from 9:00am 6:00pm. NDCC Board of Trustees I would be interested in learning more about becoming a member of the NDCC Board of Trustees. 5 NDCC Committees I would be interested learning more about becoming an NDCC committee member Committee Membership duties may include: coordinating volunteers, creating and/or distributing marketing materials or invitations, ongoing event promotion, performing tasks during the event, planning activities for events, putting together auction items/baskets, and other duties as needed. Committee members will be asked to attend regular planning meetings approximately monthly, though it varies by event and committee. Committee duties and meetings schedules vary by committee. Programs and Services Volunteer Needs Résumé Reviews: Conduct résumé reviews sessions at local library branches. Mock Interviews: Conduct mock interviews for program participants and graduates. Community Resource Panel: Represent your community/service organization on the Community Resource Panel in the New Directions program. Employment Panel: Represent your employer on the Employment Panel in the New Directions program. Education Panel: Represent your educational institution on the Life Long Learning Panel in New Directions and/or the education panel in the E3-Educate, Empower, Elevate program. Networking Reception: Attend a practice Networking Reception held for participants in the New Directions program for women. Computer Lab Monitor: Act as a monitor in the NDCC computer lab and provide job search/career development assistance as needed to lab patrons. 6 Programs and Services Volunteer Information Although the majority of service delivery is performed by agency staff and/or contract instructors, occasionally we have opportunities for volunteers to deliver services to clients or present information in a certain area of expertise. Please be aware that most programming occurs between the hours of 8:30 am and 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday. Programs and Services volunteers are needed most during those hours. Please provide the following information so we can best assess which program and/or service best suits your experience.
