3 2013 page 3 President's message Christie Mysinger, Tom's wife presenting to a Montverde Academy student of the Upper School Members, please be on the lookout for candidates for flag certificates--proper display of the US flag. If a permanent display is in accordance with flag etiquette we would like to honor those who are responsible. Mike Dick "We had a wonderful past year with numerous outstanding speakers with topics ranging from Gun Laws to how the French supported us during the Revolution. We gave medals and certificates to Eagle Scouts and JROTC cadets and even to our own Compatriots for their outstanding contributions. We supported our Public Library, The Last Naval Battle and the Vietnam Veterans with our time and our finances. We overcame the loss of our original meeting place and found a wonderful new home with the Gella American Legion Post, including their delicious Barbecue! This coming year we will have a new Constitution and By-Laws as well as a working budget. Unfortunately we will miss our dear friends the Pipers who moved to North Carolina and King Forry, Greg Gregoire and Bob Krey are not well and have our prayers for quick recoveries. We've been blessed in many ways and I know that with your help we will have a wonderful 2014 as well." Please check out these links to our involvement with the Vietnam Veterans and Captain Charlie Plumb

9 2013 page 9 Did You Know The county library system I'm sure you know by now that the County Commission will leave the county library system "as is." Great! this is worthy of note in our newsletter as a helpful action for protecting the genealogical resources in the Leesburg Public Library. Many seniors in the area benefit from the large collection of genealogical resources there. Pardon the obvious plug but, The Library I work for The City of Leesburg Public Library in Leesburg at 100 E. Main Street (352) , has an excellent genealogical collection. We can offer assistance for any would be prospect to research his lineage to prove membership. You may refer any and all interested parties to call or me at: Tom.Wilcox@leesburgflorida.gov They can arrange for a dedicated research session in which I can show them all of our resources. I would be very pleased to help anyone who needs it.

During WWII my dad was in the 176 Regiment of the 29th Infantry Division and was in the second wave of the Normandy Invasion, Omaha Beach. He was wounded twice but was one of the first Americans to meet up with the Russians at the Elbe River. He stayed in the Army at the end of the war and was in the Occupation Army. Initially he was in charge of the guards at the Nuremberg Trials. My Mom, sister and I went to join him in late 1946 and stayed until 1949, living in Nuremberg. Came home and lived in a small town, Stittville, in Upstate New York on my Grandfather s dairy farm and graduated from Holland Patent Central School.
