2 Welcome message from the President of the Irish Defence Forces Veteran Association Mr Declan Sheridan I would like to welcome, you all, to this our first inaugural St Patrick's Veterans week from the 15th to the 19th of March We are delighted to welcome back to our shores once again the Norwegian Veterans of international Operations (NVIO), With a special thanks to Mr Tore Langaard the liaison NCO for this special event. Veterans unlike any other group share a common bond, That s the bond of selfless service no matter whether that s on national or international active service for our respective countries. Norway, America, United Kingdom or Italy we all share that common bond and today we expand that bond to our brothers and sisters from across the waters and welcome them to this little country of ours Ireland Let s share a very big céad míle fáilte to one and all.

14 The Norwegian Veterans Association for International Operations (NVIO) Flag Bearer Norwegian National Flag Bearer NVIO Flag Bearer Tore Langaard Harald Evensen The Norwegian Veterans Association for International Operations (NVIO is a non-political and volunteer organisation for military personnel having participated in international operations, their dependents, and others who support NVIOs work. NVIO is Norways largest organisation for veterans from international operations, with close to members, and 57 local associations all over Norway (as of June 2012). NVIO is engaged in extensive work among veterans with problems. in addition to organising meetings for members, and being a professional organisation for all veterans from operations abroad, and their dependents, working to improve rules and regulations pertaining to veterans affairs. Meet other veterans Experiences and memories from the military service is an important part of life for many veterans; it is important to share these with other veterans. NVIOs local associations make this possible by organising meetings and other activities. On behalf of The Armed Forces Veterans Administration, many of NVIOs local associations conduct monthly veteran gatherings for all veterans, independent of membership, serving pizza or another simple meal. The members of NVIO stood shoulder by shoulder while serving. NVIO is striving to ensure that the veterans always have a supporting shoulder within reach. Even though the vast majority do well after serving abroad, some veterans struggle with physical problems and psychological reactions as a result of their service. Nobody can determine in advance who will be stricken, how and to what degree. NVIO has established dedicated services to assist all veterans independent of membership. Buddy support cannot offer treatment, it offers support and advice from another veteran, someone who understands what you are talking about. This can be done anonymously through our web based service kameratstotte.no, through our buddy support phone service , or with a partner. The two last services are available 24 hrs per day, year round, while responses from kameratstotte.no may be delayed for up to 48 hrs.

15 American Legion Ir 1 Flag Bearer John Shanahan The American Legion was chartered and incorporated by Congress in 1919 as a patriotic veterans organization devoted to mutual helpfulness. It is the nation s largest wartime veterans service organization, committed to mentoring youth and sponsorship of wholesome programs in our communities, advocating patriotism and honor, promoting strong national security, and continued devotion to our fellow servicemembers and veterans. Hundreds of local American Legion programs and activities strengthen the nation one community at a time. American Legion Baseball is one of the nation s most successful amateur athletic programs, educating young people about the importance of sportsmanship, citizenship and fitness. The Operation Comfort Warriors program supports recovering wounded warriors and their families, providing them with "comfort items" and the kind of support that makes a hospital feel a little bit more like home. The Legion also raises millions of dollars in donations at the local, state and national levels to help veterans and their families during times of need and to provide college scholarship opportunities. The American Legion is a nonpartisan, not-for-profit organization with great political influence perpetuated by its grass-roots involvement in the legislation process from local districts to Capitol Hill. Legionnaires sense of obligation to community, state and nation drives an honest advocacy for veterans in Washington. The Legion stands behind the issues most important to the nation's veterans community, backed by resolutions passed by volunteer leadership. The American Legion s success depends entirely on active membership, participation and volunteerism. The organization belongs to the people it serves and the communities in which it thrives. Carbonari Association Ireland (Italian Military Police) Flag Bearer Francisco Morrelli The Carabinieri is the fourth Italian military force charged with police duties under the authority of the Ministry of Defense. Carabinieri are the national gendarmerie of Italy, policing both military and civilian populations. Carabinieri are always "on duty" throughout the national territory including out of service hours, during leave and whilst on vacation, and they are always permitted to carry their assigned weapon as personal equipment. It was originally founded as the police force of the Kingdom of Sardinia, the forerunner of the Kingdom of Italy. During the process of Italian unification, it was appointed the "First

16 Force" of the new national military organisation. Although the Carabinieri assisted in the suppression of opposition during the rule of Benito Mussolini, they were also responsible for his downfall and many units were disbanded during World War II by Nazi Germany, which resulted in large numbers of Carabinieri joining the Italian resistance movement. Since 2001, it has been one of the four Italian Armed Forces. Royal Irish Fusiliers Flag Bearer Ronald Hammond COMBINED IRISH REGIMENTS' OLD COMRADES ASSOCIATION is a direct descendant of one of the first Regimental Associations, that of the disbanded 18th Royal Irish Regiment, which was formed in London by the late Charles Prior during late 1922/early Today, the main aim of the Association is to preserve the names and honour the deeds of all the brave and loyal Irish Regiments and our major focus is the Annual Parade, which is held at the Cenotaph in June each year. We welcome those who have served right across the Irish Regimental family to join us on that day. On this website, we shall continue to share the history of the Irish Regiments, with particular focus on their role during the First World War, which led directly to the foundation of the Association. Royal Air force Association (Ireland) Flag Bearer Pete Mc Williams On the social side of things, we hold gatherings throughout the year and we organise trips to places of interest in Ireland and abroad. We are a registered charity in the Republic of Ireland (CHY 17401, CRA ). We rely on donations from members and supporters; we do not receive any financial support from any government. The funds raised go into a central welfare fund called the Wings Appeal. We can draw down funds from the Wings Appeal when required. We hold a number of fundraising events throughout the year to raise money for The Wings Appeal. These events include monthly social gatherings, an annual Garden Party and an Annual Dinner. The Branch is managed by a Committee of unpaid volunteers. The Committee meets once every month and holds an Annual General Meeting in March of every year. The Branch sends a delegate to the National Conference which is held every May and also sends a delegate to the European Area Conference which is held around September, October, November every year. The European Area comprises branches based in European countries outside the UK.

Flag Bearer Greg Connolly Parade led by Declan Sheridan President of the Irish Defence Forces Association The I.D.F.V.A was founded in 2010 by veterans of the Defence Forces to improve the social and economic standards of veterans of the Defence Forces at home, abroad and to integrate former and retired members of the Defence Forces back into society through veteran s projects and veteran programs. To date the I.D.F.V.A. has sourced employment for over four and a half thousand veterans, helped veteran small company start-ups, successfully created over forty sole traders. This is not including the I.D.F.V. A s other ongoing projects such as, Hospital visitors programme, Veteran exchange programme, Social events programme, Veterans Come visit programme, Veteran s of the Year Programme, Veterans Nursing home and Veterans Hospice programme. The I.D.F.V.A. is composed of smaller Veteran Associations with a combined membership of over fifteen thousand Defence Forces Veterans and is the only Veterans Association made up entirely of retired and former and serving military personnel in Ireland.
