6 MILENG Function MC 0560/1 MILENG, 23 January 2012 Military engineering is the Engineer activity, undertaken regardless of component or service, to shape the physical environment. New proposed definition for MILENG (agreed at 10 th MILENG WG 2015, adopted by NSJEC 2015, supported by LC 2016 and proposed to MC) Military engineering is a function in support of operations covering the shaping, improving and protecting the physical operating environment coordinated by an engineer staff. * Custodian MC 560/1 / SHAPE JENG Div* and Revision of AJP 3.12(B) / MILENG COE* 9
7 MILENG Function MILENG Function is not about Engineer organisations, but about delivery of effects, coordinated and directed by a MILENG staff. 8 MILENG contribution to C-IED The Military Engineering Function contributes to the C-IED process by providing: Expertise related to Critical Infrastructure databases to predict high value targets including IED attack databases, vulnerable points and areas. (MILENG info) At all staff levels, MILENG establishes a Combined Joint Explosive Ordnance Disposal Coordination Cell (CJEODCC). MILENG provides: Breaching capacity Hasty demolition capacity CBRNC info (Toxic Industrial Material/toxic IED components) EOD removal capacity UXO/ROW dumps/storage sites Basic + intermediate + advanced military search capacity Area clearance Geomatics to include terrain analysis Development of the route networks, route maintenance and route sanitation Route Clearance capacity 27-Jun-16 11

12 Military Search ATP Military Search Promulgated 8 October 2015 Aims to provide a common understanding for tactical Military Search tasks and capabilities. Ratification Draft presented to 12 MILENG WG June 2016
13 Military Search ATP Military Search Training Requirements Aims to provide the required Military Search minimum training requirements, for service in operational theatres where Military Search is conducted. With focus on Search Advisors and Search teams. Ratification due date 21 September 2016
14 6th Military Search Workshop The workshop took place at the Norwegian War Academy, Oslo, Norway March The aim of the workshop was to improve interoperability and cooperation in the MS field in order to ensure a robust and effective MS effort in the contemporary operating environment. Next workshop: CAN and DNK are both offering to host the 7th Military Search Workshop in 1st half of Jun-16 21
15 New Team of Experts Technologies for Military Search The purpose of the ToE is to exchange information on technological developments with respect to Military Search capability in the participating member nations. This includes information on operational requirements for Military Search equipment and national programs on R&D, T&E, and TTP/doctrine development with respect to Military Search. The ToE will focus its activities on detection as a Military Search capability, within the context of Search tasks such as point, area, route, and building search, and addressing not only the detection of explosive hazards, but all Military Search targets such as weapons, drugs, (electronic) information carriers, and human bodies. 27-Jun-16 22
