7 A&P Practical Experience Requirements At least 18 months of practical experience with the procedures, practices, materials, tools, machine tools, and equipment generally used in constructing, maintaining, or altering airframes, or powerplants appropriate to the rating sought; or At least 30 months of practical experience concurrently performing the duties appropriate to both the airframe and powerplant ratings.

13 Losing Certificate A&P v Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has notified the FAA in writing that the person poses a security threat. v Any fraudulent or intentionally false statement on any application for a certificate or rating v Any fraudulent or intentionally false entry in any logbook, record, or report that is required to be kept, made, or used, to show compliance with any requirement for any certificate v Refusal to take drug/alcohol test for part 121 or 135 program

15 A&P Privileges and Limitations Perform or supervise the maintenance, preventive maintenance or alteration of an aircraft or appliance, or a part thereof, for which he is rated v Excluding major repairs to, and major alterations of, propellers, and any repair to, or alteration of, instruments v Must have experience with a task before performing it Or have direct supervision of a certificated mechanic Keep a logbook of activity

17 A&P Privileges and Limitations A certificated mechanic may not exercise the privileges of his certificate and rating unless, within the preceding 24 months, he has, for at least 6 month: v Served as a mechanic under his certificate and rating v Technically supervised other mechanic v Supervised, in an executive capacity, the maintenance or alteration of aircraft v Any combination of the above activities

18 A&P Privileges and Limitations Approve and return to service an airframe after he has performed, supervised, or inspected its maintenance or alteration excluding major repairs and major alterations v May perform minor repairs and alterations Perform the 100-hour inspection Approve and return to service an aircraft with a special airworthiness certificate in the lightsport category after performing and inspecting a major repair or major alteration

19 Display of A&P Certificate Keep it within the immediate area where he normally exercises the privileges of the certificate Present it for inspection upon the request of the Administrator or an authorized representative of the National Transportation Safety Board, or of any Federal, State, or local law enforcement officer

20 Repairman Specialists in an area of aviation maintenance v Doesn t have the broad knowledge of an A&P At least 18 years old Be specially qualified to perform the maintenance appropriate to the job for which he or she is employed Be recommended for certification by his employer

23 Inspection Authorization (IA) An authorization, not a rating Hold a current A&P for at least 3 years Actively engaged as A&P for at least 2 years Have a fixed base of operations at which he may be located in person or by telephone Have available the necessary equipment, facilities, and inspection data Pass a written test v Retest after 90 days of failure

24 Inspection Authorization (IA) Durations: v Expires on March 31 of each odd-numbered year v Surrendered, suspended, or revoked v No longer has a fixed base of operation v No longer has the equipment, facilities, and inspection data

25 Inspection Authorization (IA) Renewal: v Present evidence during the month of March of each odd-numbered year v Requirements (one of the items below): Performed at least one annual inspection for each 90 days Performed at least two major repairs or major alterations for each 90 days Performed or supervised and approved at least one progressive inspection Successfully completed a refresher course Passed an oral test by an FAA inspector v Must complete one of the above items each year
