1 Message from OC Dear Cadets, Welcome to the HS NPCC family. In 2001, the year the school was inaugurated, Hougang Secondary (HS) National Police Cadets Corps (NPCC) was established. Since then, HS NPCC has seen an appreciative increase in membership of the Corps. With a current strength of approximately 100 cadets, HS NPCC is currently the largest uniform group in the school. Trainings cover various fields ranging from hard skills such as drills, campcraft, and physical training to soft skills such as leadership, mentoring and debriefing, etc. These trainings are aimed at developing our cadets characters, inculcating HS values and team building skills, so as to produce all-rounded individuals ready to serve the community. Continuity in the unit is ensured through involvement of instructors (HOs/CIs from Hougang Sec) who regularly assist the unit out of voluntarism and passion. They are invaluable assets from which our Cadet Leaders tap on for their experience and guidance towards becoming a better leader and mentor. To equip our cadets with knowledge of the Singapore Police Force, cadets get to visit various Police establishments such as Police Heritage Centre, Training Village and the Home Team Gallery. They also attend various courses, such as Civil Defence, Anti- Narcotics, Police Knowledge, Home Front Security, etc. On top of that, cadets will be trained to handle the.22 revolver when they are in Secondary Two and Three. To further enrich our cadets experiential learning in NPCC, cadets are given opportunity to take up various enrichment courses such as 1-Star Kayaking course, Abseiling course, and Rock Climbing course. Our cadets were given various opportunities to travel overseas. Most recently, SI (NPCC) Shernise Lai was selected to represent Hougang Secondary for Overseas Outward Bound organized by NPCC HQ to Sabah in Dec Our cadets have also participate actively in various inter-school competitions such as Inter- Unit Campcraft competition, Inter-Unit Drills Competition, Inter-Unit.22 Revolver Shooting Competition, Air Rifle Competition, Inter-Unit Quiz Competition as well as Area Games coorganized with the other schools in Area Six. I hope that you will enjoy your stay in the Corp and make lasting friendship with your squadmates over the next four years. I hope that upon graduation from HS, the experiences you have attained from NPCC will make you a better leader, undaunted by any challenges that lie ahead. Have fun!
