1 PRESS RELEASE BUFFALO September 7, 2012 Buffalo Navy Week to be held September Norfolk, VA (NRMA) Ships from the U.S. Navy, Coast Guard and Royal Canadian Navy will participate in Buffalo Navy Week, a celebration of the Bicentennial of the War of 1812, scheduled for Sept , Buffalo Navy Week will include many events that will be free and open to the public, including tours of the USS DeWert (FFG-45), USS Hurricane (PC-3), The US Coast Guard Cutter Katmai Bay, and the Canadian ship, HMCS Ville de Quebec. Additionally, there will be Navy and Marine Band concerts and jumps by the Navy s parachute team, the Navy Leap Frogs. A full schedule of public events is listed below. All US Navy events are free. One of 15 signature events around the country, Buffalo Navy Week is an opportunity for area citizens to see their maritime services up close, and for Sailors and Coast Guardsmen to contribute to the community. The observance of the Bicentennial of the War of 1812 is a salute to all Sailors and Marines who fought gallantly in that conflict, who served in all our nation s conflicts since then, and who are defending freedom around the world.
