1 UNION COUNTY SHERIFF S STAR June 26, 2017 Volume 6, Issue 1 UNION COUNTY CITIZENS ACADEMY The Union County Sheriff s Office is now accepting applications for its next Citizen s Academy. The eleven-week academy, which begins on September 11, 2017, is an extension of the Sheriff s Office community education efforts and seeks to increase citizen awareness of the day-to-day operations of the Sheriff s Office. Academy participants are educated on topics related to procedural justice and the role of law enforcement in our community. The program is instructed by veteran deputy sheriffs and law enforcement instructors. Specific topics covered in the academy include patrol operations, the latest drug trends, operations, community education programs, crime prevention, criminal investigations, and court service operations. Students will also participate in hands on activities such as simulated traffic stops, evidence processing, and live demonstrations involving law enforcement, and the Sheriff s Office Special Response Team. Participants are also given the opportunity to ride along with a patrol deputy to gain a better understanding of the work and challenges that deputy sheriff s face every day. The Citizen Academy is open to participants who live or work in Union County. Classes are held at the Sheriff s Office in Marysville on Monday evenings from 6:00 to 8:30 pm. The program is free and participants are required to attend at least nine of the eleven classes to be eligible for graduation. It has been an excellent educational outreach program for us and it gives the attendees an opportunity to interact with and get to know many of the Sheriff s Office Employees, said Sheriff Jamie Patton. For more information or to obtain a participant application, please contact Alicia Bosch at (937) or by at abosch@co.union.oh.us.
