1 Of MICHIGAN May 24, 2012 INTREPID FALLEN HEROES FUND Fundraiser On June the ACWSA will be hosting their 3 rd annual fundraiser at Blue Water. The charity selected by the unit commanders is Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund. This fund serves United States military personnel wounded or injured in service to our nation, and their families. By raising money for this fund we will be honoring the men and women of our military forces who have sacrificed so that we may enjoy our freedom. Our contributions will be made in memory of Wallace Gibson, who passed away in Nov, Wallace served in the United States Navy during WWII. He was a long time skirmisher as a member of the 1 st South Carolina. We need everyone to make a big effort to collect money for this fundraiser. Our goal is to at least match the $5,000 amounts raised each year so far for each of our previous fundraisers. Donations by check should be made payable to Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund. Donations may be mailed to Wally Gibson at Firwood Drive, Plymouth, MI, 48170, or turned in at a shoot.
2 The first shoot of the 2012 season was held on May 6th at Blue Water. The weather was cooperative and everyone enjoyed seeing friends as well as shooting. We shot musket team competition in the morning and carbine team in the afternoon. The Richmond Historical Society provided food and drink and will continue to do so at the remaining shoots except Ashley. Canister targets were made up by Chris Hubbard s Lake Shore High School Civil War Class for their field trip to Blue Water. The students researched the uniforms and evaluated the effect of canister. All of the soldiers in the first rank were hit and only one might have survived. Several of the students who took part in the field trip were from China. They were very interested in the various activities that Chris had planned for them which include cooking rations and shooting firearms.
3 There is now a shed on the Richmond range as well as at Blue Water. The on-site storage provides for quicker set-up and take-down. This spring several volunteers gathered to organize the materials in the Blue Water building. Shelves were installed to provide places for various tools and materials. The crew shown here is working on building a heavy duty frame for a shelving unit. Both storage sheds now have basically the same layout. The goal will be to store the same equipment and materials in each shed in basically the same way. While this was going on another work detail was on the range putting plastic tubes in the ground for target frames so that we can shoot 50 and 100 yards without moving the firing line. Pictured from right to left: Chris Einowski, Paul Adamisen, Lynn Adamisen, Brian Haack, Sean Buckert, Jim Boeder, and Doug Reed. Not shown are: Mike Zandarski, Don Iveson, Doug Barbret, and Norm Gibson Hopefully we didn t leave out the name of anyone who was there that day.
4 Doug Reed acquired quite a bit of cardboard in various size sheets. He and Jim Boeder got together on a Tuesday morning and sorted and trimmed them so that they would be ready to use and easier to store. Norm Gibson has co-authored a book, Images of Richmond, which will be available in the next week. This is a visual history of the Richmond area from the early 1860 s to Most of the homes, farms and business buildings shown are over 100 years old and still in use today. The book will be available at the concession stand at shoots. The price will be $ It will also be available at local retailers, online book stores, or through Arcadia Publishing at or The author /authors will be glad to sign any copies of the book for you.
