1 ! 191 RCACS Survival Training Department Field Exercise Fall 2017 Joining Instructions 17 OCT 17 Forward 1. These joining instructions are developed under the authority of the Commanding Officer, 191 RCACS. They are designed to issue all pertinent orders in regards to logistical requirements of this Survival Training Course. 2. You must read and comply with these instructions. Any questions are to be directed to the officer in charge, as indicated in the text. 3. Suggestions for changes should be forwarded to the Survival Training Officer, 191 RCACS.
2 Cadets, The Cadet Fall Field Exercise takes place from 3-5 Nov. The skills learned in this course will enable you to survive using only the Basics. Attending the field exercise is a requirement to pass your training level. These joining instructions contain: a list of items to bring, a list of items issued to you for the weekend, and a list of rules and regulations regarding this exercise. Please use this information to make wise choices about what you bring with you. Dress well, be prepared, but also remember you carry what you bring! See notes on page 2 about packing instructions. Parents, Cadets are required to report to Camp Amisk at Nov Please ensure that they have eaten, as they are not fed again until breakfast. Cadets are to be picked up at 1500 Hrs on Sunday 5 Nov Please do not enter the de-kitting area until this time. The equipment and clothing issued to the cadets is very expensive and it is imperative that staff inspects each cadet to ensure that everything is returned in its proper condition before they are allowed to leave. 3 Personal Kit List List of Items to Bring ALWAYS DRESS IN LAYERS! MUST HAVE: 2 warm sweater and/or fleece top 2pr lightweight pants (Jeans are Not Recommended) 1 turtleneck shirt 2sets thermal underwear 2pr boxers/briefs 2 brazier (Females Only) sports type recommended 2 T-shirts (50/50 or 100% cotton) 5pr wool socks 5pr cotton or polypropylene Medication (report all meds to staff) 1 Camping mug or canteen cup 1 Water bottle SHOULD HAVE: 1pr sweat pants 1 sweat shirt 1pr Rubber boots (weather permitting) 1pr Sunglasses (optional) Suggested Packing Information 1) Pack your under garments in separate bags ie: shorts, long underwear in one bag, pants and shirts in another, sweaters in another. 2) Have socks handy but use them to fill in small areas of your pack. 3) Put the smaller bags into a large garbage bag, which will in turn be placed into your pack. * Pack all personal kit in a large gym bag or back pack and label it with your name. Please do not use suitcases or grocery bags as they may get damaged. Remember: 191 RCACS is not responsible for lost or damaged personal items. DO NOT bring expensive cameras, smart phones, etc. (Disposable cameras work very well for this purpose.) ** The officers will inspect ALL kit prior to event starting. Any prohibited items (see page 5) will be confiscated for the duration of the exercise and may be returned upon completion. Any cadet found in possession or under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol will be banned from the exercise and charged before the C.O. (ZERO TOLERANCE) Cadets will be provided with, and WILL NOT need to bring: 1 Sleeping bag 1 Air Mattress
4 Survival Training Department 191 R.C.A.C.S. STANDING ORDERS Dress regulations for survival training: Officers and Staff Cadets: Will comply to Canadian Forces Dress Regulations for combat dress CATO VOL 5 Air Cadet Dress instructions Section 15 sub para E. Civilian instructors are expected to dress appropriate to their duties. Cadets: i) Cadets may wear combat clothing during squadron survival exercises when authorized by the CO. A headdress (wedge or blue beret with the air cadet hat insignia, wide brimmed Tan summer hat, or toque) and cadet rank slip-ons shall be worn with CF combat clothing. NOTE: Course cadets may wear combat clothing during the exercise, but shall not wear any rank or insignia. Staff Cadets may wear combat clothing IAW PAI's. Orders during cadet survival training exercises: PAI Discipline SECT 2 - A CI or a cadet is not subject to the Code of Service Discipline but, by consenting to participate in any training activities with his unit or a unit of the CF, shall be held to have tacitly agreed to conform to regulations, orders and instruction issued by competent authorities. CATO Smoking - Smoking during instruction is prohibited. PAI Fraternization SECT 1 - An officer, NCM, CI or civilian volunteer shall not carry on a relationship with a cadet beyond a normal working relationship. SECT 2 - Two cadets, while involved in a cadet activity, shall not carry on a relationship beyond a normal working relationship. Prohibited Items - i) Cadets SHALL NOT bring food or drink on an exercise. This includes Energy Drinks of ANY kind. All needed rations are supplied. Any unauthorized food may attract undesirable wildlife and create a safety hazard. ii) Cadets shall only bring knives that are folding and do not have an overall blade length greater than 4 inches. Knives are to be carried in a case or stowed in a safe place. SQN-SO-01/01/2006
5 Medical Requirements The Survival Training Department ensures that every Cadet receives proper medical attention when required, no matter how big or small. We are asking that if your cadet has any medical condition, temporary, past or otherwise, to let us know in a written form (below), describing in-depth what it is, what you need to take for it, what we should do if something happens, etc. This form must be returned (medical condition or not) before the day of departure. Give this document, completed, directly to the Survival Training Officer. These documents will be kept confidential to the staff alone. Parent's Signature- I have completed this form with my cadet and ensured it is filled out correctly and nothing is left out concerning my child's Health. Cadet Signature- I understand that if at any time during the exercise I require medical attention I will inform my supervisor immediately. MEDICAL CONDITION(s) (If none strikethrough and sign)
