4 Biography/History "The state of Pennsylvania played a significant role in the Civil War...[O]ver 400,00 soldiers and regiments [from Pennsylvania fought for the Union]. [Abraham] Lincoln's initial call to Pennsylvania Governor [Andrew] Curtin drew 25 regiments and the formation of the Pennsylvania Reserve Corps for a 3-year enlistment. Troops were mustered into service after the first Bull Run, and numerous training camps were formed throughout the state. "Bucks County...is rich in Civil War History...In Doylestown's Camp Lacey, modern-day War Memorial Field, volunteers from all over the county and region including Doylestown, Perkasie, Upper Black Eddy, Philadelphia and Reading, were raised to form the 104th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry regiment under Colonel W.W.H. Davis. The proud "Ringgold" regiment would go on to be bloodied during the war and immortalized during the Battle of Fair Oaks, Virginia, May 31, 1862." Bibliography: Bucks County Civil War Round Table Library and Museum. "Bucks County in the Civil War." Accessed March 19, Scope and Contents This collection consists of various documents relating to the Civil War, with items from soldiers, officers, and veterans.
