The American Planning Association and the International Economic Development Council conferences are typically held out of state, and therefore, I am requesting permission to attend these conferences. Annually, we budget for training and travel related to continuing education, software educational activities, safety related courses, and professional organization annual conferences. The American Water Works Association (AWWA) annual conference as well as the Water Environment Federation (WEF) annual conference are typically attended by utility staff. Travel for Transit and Airport staff could be needed for courses and conferences that have not been announced yet. We are anticipating some conference attendance in areas that don t require approval, but not all conference details are known yet. Annually we budget for training and travel related to continuing education, software educational activities, safety related courses, and professional annual conferences. While we preferentially look for educational courses and conferences within the state, there may be educational courses or conferences out of state that provide opportunities not available at the local level. 13 September 1, 2017 MEMORANDUM TO: FROM: Personnel Committee Members Lisa Jakusz, City Personnel RE: Agenda Item 4 Reclassification Request Assistant Superintendent of Streets I had received a request for reclassification of the above-referenced position on May 12, Per the recently revised City Administrative Policy, the updated job description was submitted to Ann Antonsen at Springsted for review. We have received a recommendation from Springsted indicating this position should be placed in Grade O (it is currently in Grade M). Based on the recommendation, this position would move from Grade M Step 8 to Grade O Step 4. This change will bring this position in line with other middle management supervisors in the City and will allow the incumbent additional salary growth during the course of his career. I support approval of the reclassification. Fiscal Impact: the difference between the current annual salary and proposed annual salary is $ Per the policy, Approved reclassification will be effective the first pay period after council approval unless otherwise stipulated by the City Council. In the present case, I would recommend that the effective date for this request be the date the new policy was effective (7/17/2017). The reason for this departure from policy is due to the request having been submitted prior to the policy update. Please feel free to contact me with any questions.
