4 President-Elect 4 Basil Hassan (AIAA Fellow) AIAA has been an important part of my professional development for almost 35 years. My breadth of experience across the Institute (local and national) allows me to bring a diverse and unique perspective to the position of President-Elect. AIAA is at a critical juncture in its existence as we work to ensure that the society is relevant to current members and the broader aerospace profession. The needs of aerospace professionals are evolving and the Institute must evolve to keep pace as access to information and networking is markedly different today than in years past. If elected I will work with the AIAA leadership to prioritize reversing the declining membership and young professional retention trends by enhancing the value proposition of engagement for professional aerospace workers at all levels. Together we must execute the AIAA Strategic Plan through continued content expansion at our forums, meetings, and virtual engagements to attract a broader cross section of our aerospace professionals. Additionally, we must reinvigorate our publication, professional development, and recognition programs to ensure they address the most relevant and timely aerospace topics. As President, I will enhance AIAA s young professional leadership development programs to help build the future leaders both in our home organizations and for the Institute. If we don t take care of our future now, we will have no future as an Institute. I am committed to delivering a positive new member experience and ensuring current members (individual and corporate) continue to find value in AIAA. Realizing AIAA as the premier aerospace society will require leveraging my broad network in academia, government, and industry to create those products and services that aerospace professionals desire.
