1 Volume 6, Issue 24 November 23, 2016 Nova Southeastern University Sport and Recreation Management Newsletter MBA STUDENTS IN SPORT REVENUE GENERATION EMERGING TECHNOLOGIES CLASS INTERNSHIPS AND CREDITS: SPT CREDIT HOURS SPT CREDIT HOURS SPT CREDIT HOURS SPT CREDIT HOURS Dr. Fountain and his class recently attended Tech Night at Hard Rock Stadium. Congratulations to student Christopher Lynch (center) who won an autographed football. Although some of the students had toured the renovated stadium in the fall, they were exposed to new areas which specifically handle the sophisticated equipment which makes Hard Rock Stadium a state of the art facility. The event was led by Tery Howard, Chief Technology Officer, and Joe Curbelo, Director of Technology Services and Compliance. Thank you to the Miami Dolphins for extending this opportunity! 1 SPORT AND RECREATION MANAGEMENT FACULTY: PETER S. FINLEY, Ph.D. ASSISTANT DEAN FOR UNDERGRADUATE AFFAIRS JEFFREY J. 2 SITE VISIT KEVIN SUAREZ UNIVERSITY SCHOOL PRACTICUM Kevin Suarez is pictured with Julian Pino to the left as they took a break while getting ready for several Friday afternoon/evening events for University School Athletics. U School has been rebranded from Suns to Sharks and shares a new building on campus with Special Olympics and Aquatics. The transition to the new building has kept Kevin busy this fall. He has helped organize several storage rooms for the various sports programs at U School. He helped set up the new weight rooms as well as help out with game operations. Confirming the officials for games and making sure that concessions are well-stocked are just a couple of the things which he has accomplished. Kevin is a member of the baseball team and is living proof that you can be a student-athlete and still get the experience which a practicum has to offer. 2
3 COMMUNITY EVENTS ALPHA CHI NATIONAL COLLEGE HONOR SOCIETY INDUCTION CEREMONY NOVEMBER 18, 2016 Congratulations to Sport and Recreation Management majors Shawn Stricker and Cory Cody who are pictured with Professor Olson after they were officially inducted into the NSU Chapter of Alpha Chi. The organization is a coeducational academic honor society. Since 1922 its purpose has been to promote academic excellence and exemplary character among college and university students and to honor those who achieve such distinction. ST. THOMAS UNIVERSITY STONE CRAB DINNER St. Thomas University recently inducted Al Avila, GM for the Detroit Tigers, into their Sports Hall of Fame. NSU was wellrepresented along with Marlins employees who worked with Al Avila when he was a Marlins employee. It was a great night for fun and networking! Congratulations to our friends at STU who put on a great event! 3
