1 Guidelines Alpha Omega Sports Performance, Inc., announces their 2018 Spirit of Community Scholarship Fund providing four $1,000 scholarships to deserving high school seniors in Escambia and Santa Rosa Counties that have demonstrated high academic achievement and future potential success in college and advanced community involvement including volunteer service. Students will have until April 30, 2018 to submit their application packages. Children of Alpha Omega client-athletes are eligible to apply and should complete the application as directed. Available Scholarships: Four (4) $1,000 scholarships are available for seniors attending any high school in Escambia and Santa Rosa Counties. Program Guidelines & Priorities: Seeking graduating seniors with a record of volunteerism in the community in non-school sponsored activities and participation in extracurricular school activities. Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 and plan to attend a 2 or 4-year college or technical school. Scholarship fund recipients will be notified by June 15, 2018 and announced on June 30, The awarded college scholarships are meant to be used as tuition reimbursement and are paid directly to the winners. Applicants must have the endorsement of their Guidance Counselor on their application attesting they are a qualified fit for this scholarship program. Application deadline is April 30, 2018 by 4:00 p.m. Late applications are not accepted. Mail one copy of a completed typed application package to: Spirit of Community Scholarship Committee, C/O Alpha Omega Sports Performance, Inc. 490 E. Heinberg Street, Pensacola, FL Applicants will be evaluated in a two-step process including completion of an application where a review board will identify and select finalists who will then be interviewed by a separate final selection panel board. The application process will include an application form, essay, academic information, community leader nomination, two reference letters, and a final interview. 3 Application Requirements Forms to Include Scholarship Application form. Complete, print, and sign the form Official transcript. Include an official transcript from the high schools attended by the applicant. Official transcripts must be in sealed envelope and signed by a school official. All transcripts must be received prior to application deadline of April 30, 2018 or the application will be considered incomplete. List all high schools attended on one page. Include a list of the names and locations of high schools attended by the applicant. Awards and activities summary page. A list of awards or activities highlighting the applicant s academic achievement, community involvement and leadership potential. This information may include academic or non-academic awards or recognitions; membership in organizations and positions held in such organizations; participation in service or community projects and internship or employment experience during the applicant s high school years. Names of colleges you have been accepted to and where you have applied. A one page summary of the names of the colleges to which the applicant has been accepted, if any, and the names of any other colleges to which the applicant has applied. Essay. Describing how volunteer or community service has shaped who you are today and what community service has taught you. Also, discuss any challenges or obstacles you have dealt with in life and how will these help you succeed in college and beyond. Letters of Recommendation Spirit of Community applicants are required to provide two letters of recommendation in addition to the Community Leader Nomination letter. Each of the letters should address the below qualities. Leadership Abilities and Potential: This letter should confirm leadership abilities and potential. The letter writer should be able to discuss the candidate s leadership qualities and how they have been demonstrated through acts in the community. Intellect and Prospects for Continuing Academic Success: This letter should discuss the student's overall academic background in context of the student's future plans for career and postsecondary education. It is recommended, though not required, that the writer have taught the student at some point. Community Leader Nomination Letter This letter of reference from a community leader should highlight significant and demonstrable contributions to your community.
