Eligibility Information - Muslim Scholarship Fund Application Form - Muslim Scholarship Fund 2018 The Muslim Scholarship Fund was launched in 2009 and since then has benefited 22 students within the Peel region public school system. The $1000 award is open to all students, regardless of religion, who go above and beyond in helping those less fortunate and making their communities more accommodating for the less privileged. We request the help of school staff in disseminating this scholarship information to the graduating students of 12 th grade. Please assist in carrying out the following actions in support of this scholarship fund: 1. Publicize the scholarship to appropriate students in your school, and make available copies of the ELIGIBILITY INFORMATION & APPLICATION FORM. 2. Encourage Application Forms to be ed from eligible students by the deadline of March 23, 2018 ( s will be accepted prior to midnight on this Friday ONLY) Note: Only 12 th grade students attending a Peel District School are eligible to apply for this scholarship. Catholic School students are not eligible for this scholarship as our funds are only available in the Peel District School Board. 4 ELIGIBILITY INFORMATION MUSLIM SCHOLARHSIP FUND Students who meet the selection criteria are requested to complete the scholarship Application Form and submit to the Selection Committee via by the submission deadline of March 23 rd, The completed application should be ed to The recipient of the Scholarship will be informed by May 11 th The decision of the Committee is final. Total Value Scholarships of $1000 each will be given this year. Eligibility Graduating this year from a Peel Region secondary school (Peel District School Board, not Peel Catholic School Board). Acceptance at a recognized Canadian university for a full year s study in a degree program. Criteria (in order of priority) Involvement in the community Demonstrated Leadership and Achievements High academic standing Selection committee Members of the Muslim Scholarship Fund Use of Scholarship Reimbursement of tuition fees or other approved expenses to a maximum of $1000 Deadline March 23 th 2018 Documentation Completed application form Two reference letters (one academic, one from agency where you volunteer) Candidate s essay Official transcript for Semester 1 report card only All correspondence must be sent via to muslim.scholarship@gmail.com

5 Application Form Muslim Scholarship Fund 2018 INSTRUCTIONS TO APPLICANT (Complete all instructions) 1. The successful applicant will be notified via and appropriate arrangements will be made for the announcement and presentation of the award during the High School Convocation. 2. Upon written confirmation from the appropriate university that the student is enrolled in a formal program the student will be notified as to the time and location for the presentation of the award. 3. Please keep your involvement and community service details to local Canadian volunteer work. The committee cannot validate any volunteer experience done outside Canada and thus will only look at volunteer experience obtained within Canada. 7 SECTION 2: Candidate Essay In essay form, answer the question, Why is volunteering in the larger community important for you and how have you felt you ve made a difference in society? The Committee needs to understand your thought process on why helping those less fortunate is important to you as a person. You can elaborate on your volunteer work here too. The essay should be no more than one typed page to be submitted with your ed application. (NOTE: Try not to use font larger than 12, 10 would be good. Single spaced would be preferred, as opposed to double spaced essays.) Part D Transcript Please enclose a current official transcript of your Semester 1 interim report card only. It is expected that this will be scanned and sent in with your filled out application form (please ensure that the scanned copy is legible because if it isn t, this will nullify the application from the selection process). Part E References Please provide one academic and one volunteer agency reference. The academic reference must be from a teacher from your current school and the volunteer agency reference should be from some authority who oversees the community service work done by the applicant. The letters of reference should highlight the achievements, personal qualities (such as honesty, trustworthiness, generosity, courage.) and leadership skills of the candidate. Please feel free to use specific examples from the students contribution to the organization to illustrate these qualities. Also, add if that student was an average, good, excellent or top rated volunteer for your organization.
