1 Cary Academy Class of 2014 Merit Scholarships Members of the Class of 2014 have reported the following merit scholarship offers from colleges, universities and other agencies. This list represents over 5 million dollars in merit scholarships offered to students in the Class of 2014, and it includes only those offers which students communicated in writing to the College Counseling Office. Congratulations, seniors! Pujith Adusumilli Duke University: B.N. Duke Scholarship, recognizing students who excel academically, engage their communities and aspire to become leaders at Duke and beyond. Comprehensive scholarship valued at $280,000 over 4 Kiran Aida University of Chicago: Academic merit scholarship of $5,000 per year, renewable for 4 Matthew Aupperle IBM Thomas J. Watson Memorial Scholarship: $2,000 per year scholarship to high achieving children of IBM employees, renewable for 4 Summer internship opportunities are also available to recipients. Emma Astrike-Davis UNC-Chapel Hill: Morehead-Cain Scholarship, based on moral force of character, scholarship, physical vigor and leadership, valued at approximately $110,000 over four years and including multiple summer and other programmatic opportunities. NC State University: Park Scholarship, based on demonstration of scholarship, leadership, service, and character, valued at approximately $92,000 over four Rebekah Banks UNC Wilmington: Full women s basketball scholarship valued at $16,000 per year for 4 Samantha Becker Drexel University: A.J. Drexel Scholarship for $14,000 a year, a partial-tuition merit award granted to incoming freshmen based upon superior academic performance. Loyola Marymount University: LMU Achievement Award for $12,300 a year, renewable for 4 years, an award that signifies our confidence in the student as a scholar and our excitement at the prospect of his/her enrollment at LMU. Syracuse University: SU Founders Scholar award for students who have distinguished themselves through outstanding academic achievement, $12,000 each year for four Mariah Bishop Ronald McDonald Scholarship: one time award of $1,000 in recognition of service. Jake Buchanan UNC Chapel Hill: $2,500 per year scholarship for exceptional achievement in music. 1
2 Carolyn Calder Elon University: Presidential Scholarship of $4,500 annually, renewable for 4 years, awarded to approximately the top 15 percent of entering first-year students each year. Tulane University: Distinguished Scholar Award of $25,000 annually, awarded by the Office of Undergraduate Admission to incoming freshmen applicants with outstanding academic qualifications. Chandler Coley University of Miami: President s Scholarship for academic excellent, $8,000 per year for 4 Baylor University: Provost s Gold Scholarship of $8,500 per year for 4 years, awarded to applicants for exceptional academic record. NC A&T: $2,000 one-time scholarship for academic excellence. Oliver Eisenbeis St. Olaf College: Buntrock Presidential Scholarship, given for outstanding accomplishments, inside and outside the classroom, valued at $24,000 per year or $96,000 over 4 Andrew Glosson Drexel University: The A.J. Drexel Scholarship is a partial-tuition merit award granted to incoming freshmen by the Admissions Committee based upon superior academic performance. Valued at $18,500 per year, renewable for 4 Saahj Gosrani University of Maryland: Presidential Scholarship of $8,000 per year based on excellence in academic and extracurricular achievements. Andrew Hamrick Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT): $10,000 merit scholarship per year, renewable for 4 years, for a total of $40,000. Clemson University: $10,000 per year, renewable for 4 years, or a total of $40,000. Bennett Hatfield The United States Air Force Academy: Appointment to the US Air Force Academy, a full scholarship valued at $440,000 over 4 NROTC Scholarship: Full Navy ROTC scholarship to Virginia Tech, valued at $38,297 per year, renewable for 4 years AFROTC Scholarship: Full Air Force ROTC scholarship, covering all expenses and a monthly stipend, if applied to Virginia Tech, valued at $38,928 per year. UNC Chapel Hill: AFROTC Detachment 590 Commander s Scholarship, valued at $9,240 per year, renewable for 4 Virginia Tech: Emerging Leader Scholarship at the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets, $12,000 over 4 2
3 Keegan Hines George Washington University: Presidential Academic Scholarship, awarded to the most competitive students in the applicant pool, valued at $25,000 per year for four UNC-Chapel Hill: Carolina Scholars Award, recognizing superior academic achievement, evidence of self-direction and intellectual curiosity, and a genuine motivation for learning. Scholarship is valued at $9,000 per year, renewable for 4 Eugenia Huang Wake Forest University: Joseph G. Gordon Scholarship, given to students who show exceptional promise and achievement and who are members of constituencies traditionally underrepresented at Wake Forest. A full, four year scholarship, valued at approximately $241,000 over four years, plus a $5,000 grant for summer research. Hannah Hubbard Smith College: STRIDE Scholarship, $15,000 per year for four Elizabeth Hunt Elon University: Presidential Scholar for top academic students from North Carolina, $4,500/year, renewable for four UNC Asheville: Laurel Scholarship of $3,000 a year for four years, given to the top 5% of the admitted students. UNC Wilmington Honors Scholarship: $5,000 a year for four years Alexis Hunter Parsons College of Art: Dean s Scholarship for academic excellence of $10,000 per year, renewable for 4 Savannah College of Art and Design: Academic Scholarship of $10,000 per year, renewable for 4 years; additionally awarded the Achievement Scholarship of $3,000 per year, also renewable for 4 Shantal Jayawickreme National Merit Scholarship for University of Chicago: $2,000 per year, renewable for 4 Kelly Jones Elon University: Presidential scholarship of $4,500, awarded to the top 15% of entering first-year students and renewable each year. Michael Jones North Carolina State University: Pulp and Paper Foundation Scholarship, awarded to top students based on academics, essays and achievements in the Paper and Engineering Science Department; the scholarship is for $2,500 the first year, and $3,000 for each successive year. University of Southern California: The half-tuition (approx. $23,000 per year for four years) Presidential Scholarship is awarded to recognize extraordinary academic achievement and student leadership.in addition to academic criteria, candidates talent, perseverance, innovation, involvement and leadership are considered. Ellie Mehrbakhsh Virginia Tech: $6,000 merit scholarship for excellence. University of South Carolina: Sims Scholars Award of $9,000 per year scholarship or $36,000 total over 4 Anastasia Morgus University of South Carolina: McKissick Scholars Award, awarded to non-residents who demonstrated success inside and outside the classroom in high school. Case Western University: University Scholarship: merit scholarship that recognizes outstanding academic and personal achievement; 22,000 annually, renewable for 4 years, $88,000 total. Stony Brook University: Provost Scholarship- Merit scholarship awarded for meritorious high school average as well as SAT/ACT scores, co-curricular activities, research experiences or special talents or skills. $6,500 annually, renewable for 4 years, $26,000 total.
