1 SHORT BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH Prof. Kakarla Subbarao is a world-renowned radiologist and has been a Professor of Radiology at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, New York until he returned to India in He has come back to India to create the Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences, Hyderabad at the behest of Late Sri N T Rama Rao, Former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh on honorary basis without any salary for a total period of over 10 years. He was the chairman of Medwin Hospitals, Hyderabad. He was also chairman of SVIMS, Tirupathi. He has been the Chairman for the Indian College of Radiology and Imaging from 1993 to 1998 and National President of Indian Radiological and Imaging Association for the year He has elevated the standards of Radiology in the country. He has started Continuous Medical Education programmes and conducted more than 400 throughout the country. These services have culminated in getting the award of "Radiologist of the Millennium" at the 53 rd Annual Congress of Indian Radiological and Imaging Association held at Bhopal. The Government of India is also felicitated with Padmasri for his selfless services rendered to the nation in the Field of Medicine. He was born in an agricultural family-to Late Sri Venkata Ratnam and Late Smt Manikyamma at Pedamuttevi of Krishna District, Andhra Pradesh on 25 th January, His M.S. in Radiology was at New York University of Postgraduate Medical School, New York. He worked as Professor of Radiology in Osmania Medical College and New York College of Pediatric Medicine. He is a Fellow of Royal College of Radiologists, U.K.., American College of International Physicians and American College of Radiology. He was conferred Doctor of Medicine (HON) by N.T.R. University, Vijayawada (2003). He has presented more than 450 papers in various conferences and published more than 250 articles. He is the Chief Editor of the recently released book on "Diagnostic Radiology" written by the Indian authors in Three Volumes. He is the sole author of the Book on Forgotten Skull. He is the coauthor of recently published book on Footprints in Radiology He is Emeritus Prof. of Nizam s Institute of Medical Sciences, HYDERABAD. He is External Member of University of Hyderabad in the field of medicine. He is member of Credential Committee for various Orations, Awards and Fellowships of Indian College of Radiology & Imaging. He is a fellow of Internal Academy of Medical Sciences. He was the founder President of "Susruta Society of Radiology" USA, now known as Association of American Radiologists of Indian origin (AARI). Presently he is the chairman of KIMS Medical Research Foundation, Secunderabad. He was the Ex-President of Vignana Jyothi, Hyderabad, Chairman of International Educational Academy and Kakarla Subbarao Radiological Educational Sciences Trust (KREST) at Hyderabad. He is also a member of many voluntary and service oriented organizations such as Andhra Mahila Sabha and member of Court of Administrative Staff College of India. He was member of the Core Committee of National Board of Examination. Member of Ethical Committee for Research and Clinical Trials for a number of Medical Institutions.
