4 LINCOLN UTC SIEMENS TOP TALENT SCHOLARSHIP PROCEDURES 1. INTRODUCTION Siemens is the leading global engineering and technology services company and has been active in the UK for over 170 years. They provide innovative solutions to help tackle the UK s major challenges. Siemens has 13 manufacturing sites, more than 25 major offices and employs 14,000 people in the UK alone. Siemens have generously provided Lincoln UTC students with the opportunity to apply for Siemens Scholarships. These have been designed to provide additional opportunities for the most technically or academically able engineering students at the UTC. 2. AIMS OF THE DOCUMENT The aim of this procedural document is to set out fair, equitable and objective criteria for approving applications for Siemens Top Talent Scholarships and to ensure affordability. 3. RESPONSIBILITY The Siemens Scholarship Awards Panel will be responsible for ensuring this policy is adhered to. The Awards Panel will include the Principal and representatives from Siemens. The Siemens Scholarship Awards Panel s decisions are final. 4. ELIGIBILITY There are five Siemens Top Talent scholarships available for students in Year 10 or Year 12. Students are eligible to make one application. The Siemens Scholarship Awards Panel will decide if a student is eligible and, if so, agree if they are to be awarded a scholarship. 5. PUBLICISING THE SCHOLARSHIP The UTC will publicise the Siemens Top Talent Scholarships through a variety of means. These include posters, through mentors and during the student induction programme. The successful applicants will be informed by 1 st December 2016 and will be invited to attend a celebration event in December UTC staff will inform unsuccessful candidates verbally. 6. THE APPLICATION PROCEDURE 1. Applicants must complete the Siemens Application Form provided and hand it in to the Principal, Dr. Rona Mackenzie, by Monday 26 th September All sections of the relevant application form(s) must be completed and evidence requested to support an application must be submitted, otherwise the application will be rejected. 3. Dr. Mackenzie and Mr. Lewin, Head of Engineering will screen application forms and provide UTC-based information regarding attendance, effort and progress to accompany the applications. 4. Applications will be sent to Siemens and shortlisting will be conducted.

5 5. A Shortlisting Committee will be assembled to read the applications. The Committee assessing the application should, on all occasions, declare any personal interest of any application received, such as from a relative or close personal friend. The Committee Chair will ensure that the application is assessed by staff who have no personal interest in the application. 6. Students will be shortlisted for the Scholarship. Successful applicants will be invited to attend an Assessment Centre. Unsuccessful applicants will receive written confirmation of their application outcome. 7. Interviews will be conducted in October and early November. 8. The successful applicants will be informed by 1 st December 2016 and will be invited to attend a celebration event in December Unsuccessful candidates will be informed of the outcome by the Siemens Top Talent Scholarship Committee. 7. SUCCESSFUL APPLICANTS Successful applicants will attend an Awards Event in December 2016 to meet members of Siemens and learn about the opportunities ahead of them. The Scholarship will run from December 2016 until January Students will attend an event in Summer 2017 and December 2017 to share their progress. During the course of the academic year, scholarship winners will be expected to wear the Siemens pin badge on their suits to reflect their scholars status. They will also act as Ambassadors for Siemens during UTC events. 8. APPLICATION FORM The application form is available from the UTC website on the policies page at
