2 3 rd Annual AIChE Industry Panel Recap The Baton Rouge AIChE chapter, in cooperation with LSU AIChE members, hosted the third annual Industry Panel on March 5, 2015 in Tureaud Hall on the campus of LSU. 11 AIChE members were present to answer the students questions, with experience ranging from 2 years to 20+ years and varied job backgrounds. Around 20 students came to participate in the question and answer session, and many of them came prepared with their own very thoughtful questions to ask. Topics ranged from introspective career questions, such as what type of personal growth a career in engineering can bring, to general job hunting topics, such as what differentiates consulting firms in the area. The students seemed to appreciate the honest, yet optimistic answers from the AIChE panel and the varied viewpoints the panel provided. Overall, the panel was a great success and the students left with a renewed optimism and confidence for their profession. Lauren Hartley 3rd Annual Industry panel participants from left to right: Stephen Reilly (ProSys), Lauren Hartley (Trinity Consultants), Ross Roussel (CB&I), Bill Buck (Willbros), Dr. Ramon Scheffer (Huntsman), Oscar Alfaro (Jacobs), Carly Spaulding (ProSys), John Tate (ExxonMobil), Donna Bryant (Syngenta), Prof. Armando Corripio (LSU), and James Ingram (OxyChem) JOB OPPORTUNITY ExxonMobil Baton Rouge Plants are searching for experienced individuals to fill Process Automation Engineering positions. If interested, please visit the ExxonMobil careers website: (Search openings, Engineering, Gulf Coast, keyword: process control applications Baton Rouge). ExxonMobil is an Equal Opportunity Employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, protected veteran status or disability status.

3 From the Chapter Chair s Pen Oh I get by with a little help from my friends, sang the Beatles almost 50 years ago. No doubt, no matter what stage in our lives we are, family, friends, and other support help us achieve our goals as well as overcome tough times. For the Baton Rouge AIChE chapter, as a nonprofit group, we certainly have similarly benefitted from the help of our current and past sponsors, whose advertisements are and have been shown both here in this newsletter and on our website. But did you know the chapter also offers companies other opportunities? For example, one could sponsor one of our awards presented at our annual Coates Award Banquet with the American Chemical Society honoring excellent LSU undergraduate and graduate students efforts. Also, a company could cover the costs of one of the multiple grant applications we fund as part of our annual High School Chemistry Classroom Grants program that enhances chemistry (and consequently chemical engineering) lessons taught to high school students in the greater Baton Rouge area. The chapter s attempt at recruiting sponsors is still in its infancy, as we are open to offering whatever other benefits can best serve our sponsors. Thus, if you, your employer, or any business you know is looking to assist an organization that promotes and advocates for the chemical engineering profession in society, please get in touch with me or one of my fellow officers as soon as possible! Thanks in advance, and have a great month!

It is a welcoming presence to new chemical engineers in the area. 2. It provides a neutral ground mentorship toward career directions and other life topics. 3. It facilities a better understanding of local, state, and federal policies related to our professions. 4. It offers a smooth transition for graduating chemical engineers from LSU, ULL, and other nearby universities who start working in the area.
